Gee Ma, what are these toys for?

When I first brought Duke home I felt so bad that we didn't have any toys for him. (Got too excited about him and just got the necessary items, most of which you were required to buy when adopting him.) Now I've made up for it in every variety I can find! Squeekers, frisbee, ball, bone, chew toy, you name it. He won't play with anything. :( He chewed on one bone but I can't get him to do it again, oddly enough.

So I guess my question is how am I supposed to play with him? Is there a reason he doesn't like any toy? Is there any way I can get him to like toys?

Right now our playtime activities include running through the house and sliding over the tile in a rampant version of Tag and scaring the bejeebus out of each other playing Hide and Seek ...which usually turns into the aforementioned game of Tag. :) Once it gets outside though, he prances for a moment and then seems to forget why we're there.

Not all dogs like toys. The only thing Luke cares about is baby, which he sucks on when he's really tired. Daisy has never played with anything and Rosco uses toys to irritate the others
My parents' sheepie has never really liked toys. She used to play tug with an old sock, and she'll chase a tennis ball about 4 times, but that's about it.

Barney LOVES toys, but he goes in cycles with them...some he leaves for weeks and then all of a sudden they are a favorite again. As for chewing on bones, he'll always chew on new ones, but sometimes the old ones get left around a lot...

I wouldn't worry...sometimes just the running around and stuff...being active with them is 'toys' enough for them...
Hide and Seek is so much fun!!! Annie has never really been into toys since she's lived with us. She seems to pick them up more so that she doesn't get into trouble with nipping people when she's excited.

Foz seems want to play with anything that isn't a toy. He likes to play tug with Annie only and will push these fabric balls around the house.
Lucy has never played with toys but give her a bone and she's the happiest dog ever. When she was younger, a bone used to serve as her way to play with us. She'd pick it up and throw it until we'd come and play. Now, in her old age, she will sometimes take one of Clyde's toys and hide it or rip the face off. I know it's for spite despite what anyone says.
About 3 years ago I took in a kennel dog for re-hab. She was not interested in toys because like most dogs rasied in a kennel she had no idea what they were. They could have been rocks or pieces of wood/garbage to her. This is what I did.

I got out my clicker and got her familiar with click and treat. Then I took a soft ball and put it on my knee. Anytime she glanced at it I clicked and treated. It took no time until she learned that when she looked at it she got a treat. When she was doing this all the time I stopped clicking for a look and waited for an approach. She learned to lean towards it for a click and treat. When this was reliable I waited her out for a touch....then I put it on the floor and shaped what I wanted. She learned to roll it around for a click and treat, and to pick it up and finally to fetch.

But little did I know that I had created a monster! She became ball obsessed with her new-found skill, and any ball on the ground was fair game. She was relentless in her pestering to play. She was placed in a new home and with her new family had a way of communicating with her that she understood and they could expand on.
My Toy Poodle, Peanut has never been interested in toys.
My first Toy Poodle, Scooter who I rescued loved toys. He even knew them all by name.
My German Shepherd Harley was never interested in toys either.
Pepsi loves toys. Rags enjoys stealing them from him
Hopefully I can get him interested in something. Of course our running games are pretty entertaining. I'm beginning to believe that he just likes having an excuse to skid across the floor without actually wiping out and being teased about it. xD

He does like to DDR with me. 8O Of course he's only good for pressing one arrow and he doesn't exactly have the rhythm I need, but boy does he get excited when it's time to dance! :D
Ok maybe this is a dumb question, but what is DDR?
Dance Dance Revolution. It's a video game that comes with a pad that you have to use on the floor. Then you have to step on the arrows in time with how they're moving on the screen. It's something you usually see in the arcades but a home version of it. It's a blast. xD
I dunno, but I do actually know who CCR is :D
Jasper didn't like many toys until we got Joy. Now he only likes the ones she has. ;)
Sometimes he thinks the cats are toys. I guess I ought to just be happy he'll tear through the house and does something, even if it doesn't involve toys. Maybe the next one will like toys. :)
Try only having 2 or 3 toys out, put away the rest and bring those you after awhile, keep changing it up. Too many toys at once isn't a good thing.
I only have 2 or 3 toys. The Frisbee and ball are in the backyard and his bone and tug of war thing are in the house. One in the bedroom and one shoved in the cushions of 'his' couch.
Those sound like toys you have to play with him with. Mine loves plush toys to play with by herself.
Ollie loves teddies or furry animals with a squeek - he has had a couple of teddies since he was a pup (now 11 months) and they don't have a single tear in them - he just mouths on them
