hee hee hee...you were sucked in! You'll use it to make bread 5 times!
Seriously, those machines make such great bread...sorry, I have no recipes... |
My inlaws bought me a bread machine about 4 years ago and we've never used it. They sell mixes at the store that are really good though. My MIL used to bake her own bread with the machine...no more. |
I use my machine at least once a week. (Weekend-French Toast, Week-Garlic Bread.....) Anyhow, I just buy the mixes from the store..............ummmmm yummy! We seems to lean more towards the Sundried Tomato & the Sweet Hawian................ |
I just buy pillsbury dough boy....pop in the oven..... |
Darcy you're not supposed to put the dough boy in the oven, just the dough.... |
hehe I bought a bread machine. A Regal Kitchen Pro model. It makes a 2 lb tall loaf. I used it for about 18 months twice a week. I have 2 kids and we ate no store bought bread during that time. I used Costco flour 50lbs at a time. The yeast was 1/10th the cost at costco too 2 lb brick for something like $5. At the supermarket you get 4 oz for $6. The sugar, salt, milk, eggs are relatively inexpensive, and some recipes don't require most of those. I figured out it costs about 35 cents per loaf for a 2 lb plain white bread! the machine more than paid for itself and everyone loved the bread! I re-did my kitchen and haven't started up with the bread again. Don't know why but maybe this thread will get me going again!!
Here are two of our fav recipes: (for a 2 lb machine) White bread... put these into the bread machine IN THIS ORDER 1.5 teaspoons salt 3 tablespoons sugar 1 cup lukewarm water (important to be warm) 1/3 cup lukewarm milk (important to be warm) 3 tablespoons margarine, (or veg oil, canola, corn, peanut, olive, safflower, soy, sunflower oil). The peanut oil will keep the bread fresher longer too! 3.75 cups flour 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast (make a dent in the flour for the yeast) Set machine on the basic setting with medium crust then enjoy in a few hours! French bread put these into the bread machine IN THIS ORDER 1.5 teaspoons salt 1 tablespoon sugar 12 - 13 OZ. lukewarm water 1.5 tablespoons vegetable or olive oil 4 cups flour 2 teaspoons active dry yeast (make a dent in the flour for the yeast) Set machine on the french setting with medium crust. Remember you can use less liquid to start and let the machine run for a few mins to see if the dough looks right. Lumpy and odd shaped and sticky needs a little more liquid. It should look kind of like a ball rolling around in the middle. Your machine may work with more or less liquid. That is the critical part so start of with less and check. You can always add more but can't go the other way! |
lol...Stace....you made me spit out water....poor dough boy...i never realized.... |
thanks for the recipes! That one was a funny one about the dough boy! We probably will start the bread kick once we get settled in PA. Yes, I was a sucker when it came to buying a bread machine! I love my carbs! |
Even me, the one who DOES NOT cook makes bread in my bread machine.
I finally found a domestic chore that I can beat Darcy at!! YEAH!! Even I don't bake the dough boy! |
I use mine all the time but bake it in the oven, I don't like the way it bakes in the machine. Great for pizza dough and sweet bread to feed the birds |
Do you have the recipe for the pizza dough? I have a big pizza stone and a peel but buy the dough at the supermarket ($1.50) I never thought to make it in the bread machine! |
Sure, I'll find the book and post it. |
I use mine in the winter months, nothing better than home made bread, hot from the oven/or machine and huge bowl of soup off the stove.... Yummy. I use the recipes that came with the machine and have bought at the book store an additional book on bread machine bread. Love them all. On Turkey day I have the machine make my dough and I shape the rolls, bring them to a second rising and then bake them....
I love cooking for Turkey Day! |
I went thru two machines, then decided we (read ME) shouldn't be eating all that bread.
As for pizza dough........I make a foccacia bread thingy for pizza dough. I do this in the food processor: 2 cups flour(sometimes a bit more), 2/3 cup warmish water, 1 pkg rapid rise yeast, salt (I don't measure because we don't use as much as normal people). Pulse that a few times, then while machine is running pour in olive oil (I bet I use almost a 1/4 cup ), add fresh rosemary. Now the garlic can be powdered, but that's only if I'm being real lazy. Otherwise I might throw in a small......read small garlic clove minced.....maybe. Depends on what the pizza will be. Once it's all together pulse a few more times. If you bake bread, you'll know by the way the dough feels, if there is enough flour. Put into bowl and let rise once. Our favorite pizza is a veggie pizza of green peppers, onions, and feta cheese. What did you expect??? Everything goes with feta! |
I use my machine ALL WINTER LONG, I love it!!!!!!!!! I've had it for about 8 or 9 years and it works great. Mine makes up to a 2lb loaf. I use the recipes that came with it or I buy the boed mises. I don't shop at Sam's Club anymore but when I did you could buy a large box of a variety of mixes that were really good, REALLY CHEAP.
I haven't ever made it in the machine and baked in the oven but I should give that a try. The only think I don't like about my machine is the shape of the loaf and the way it sometimes sticks in the pan and you have to pry it out. |
I use mine in the winter months too. The smell of the fresh bread is heavenly!. I just use the boxes. The Italian and sweet hawaiian are favorites at our house. Mine is many years old and the whole wheat button doesn't work anymore . I tried doing the whole wheat on the regular cycle - it doesn't work - just ends up a half-baked lump of dough........ Maybe I should steal my MIL's- hers just sits in the box! |
I say GO FOR IT!!! |
I think she would appreciate someone taking it off her hands and using it! Less clutter in her house. Ask her! |
I used mine all the time, but the machines are a fire hazard and our started to smell really burned, so I don’t dear to use it anymore |
You could use it in the bathtub to prevent fires. |
