Poor Emily A guess there was nothing they could do about her eyesight. How sad. I am sure she will adjust. That has got to be really hard. Seeing, then not being able to see. Give that little girl a big from me.
I am glad you found a good home for Gwennie. I am sure she'll be happy with the other Sheepies. |
Awww - give Emily lots of kisses from us. I feel for her especially - probably because we share a name! She seems to have been dealt a rougher start than most of us, but I hope her ending is wonderful. |
Hi Kaye-
Emily will do perfectly fine without her vision... it's a sad thing that she's lost it but sight is not the most important sense a dog has. The specialist and staff down at Michigan State University's Animal Center stressed this. Dogs adapt extremely well to blindness especially at this young age. People see Kaytee and they can't believe she's mostly blind... the mailman came in last week and again commented on this. It's we humans that often have a hard time coping until we learn first hand that it's really no big deal. Just encourage her to investigate new noises so she's not fearful and give her lots of good experiences in meeting people, dogs and other animals and new places. Remember when Kaytee was given only 6-8 weeks to live before she flew to us? The specialist feared she had liver shunts because she was so small but they couldn't test her because, again, she was so small? If all of Emily's bloodtests came back good maybe Emily is simply destined to be a small sheepie too. I know you'll keep her forever if necessary but if there's someone willing to put a little extra effort into a sheepie they would discover a wonderful and loyal companion. Wishing her the very best! So sorry to hear about little Emily, but she will do just fine Easier for her the sight then deafness. At least she can learn to follow sounds and learn to come when she is called. Deafness is harder on them. You will probably find as she gets bigger she will latch on to one of the older kids and following them around and be guided by them too, they seem to have a 6th sense and know.
It happened with my old girl when her sight was failing and she would follow the other two around, it was wonderful how they knew and were very protective and patient with her. Glad you found a furever home for Gwennie, they had the best start to there life and it has been wonderful hearing about these miracle babies and there progression from birth. Also have to say Jaclin what a miracle Kaytee is too, she really is an amazing & dear little girl |
Emily is blessed to be in such a great family and home. I'm sure she'll do just fine! |
Yes I remember Jaci. You never know how things will turn out....... Little Emily is doing very well. The Big Babies are very protective of her. Things will calm down when Gwennie goes to her Furever Home. She is so much bigger then Emily and much rougher. She really gets it on with Buzzsaw. She can whip him already. Louise is going to have her hands full with that little Girl.. Mercy!!!!!! Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
It sounds like you need a another playpen so Emily can hide under it and torment her bigger sister Kayt was good at that
And thanks Lisa... Kaytee is a special sheepie but once you're around her you discover she's like any other... maybe a bit more bossy though. |
Emily is blessed to have the 'pack' help her- she has her hearing and that will help get her thru= you are an angel for caring for her Kaye! |
