Does anyone know how they would get it? Licking? She also pees with her area touching the ground. I have a cream to put on her area every six hours and anti-biotics. She is not supposed to lick herself....yeah right! I guess I am going to have to try shorts for her. The Vet said that the bump above her eye is very small and to keep an eye on it. She said if they tried to remove it it would be hard to tell where it begins and where it ends. Other than that I got praises from the entire Veterinary Staff. She is at 70 lb....which I predicted the other day. Everyone said how much better she looks. Ever her teeth Just thinking... If Rags is 70 lbs I hate to see what Pepsi is.... He looks like a saugage I would guess 75, but he is almost 3 inches shorter than her. When I got home I pulled into the driveway and looked at my odometer in horror to see it read 066600. My week has already been a nightmare. I almost backed out of the driveway to drive around a little more. But I decided maybe I shouldn't. I am going to take a nap now. |

LMAO...I know I shouldn't but my G-d! Poor Elissa and Rags. |
I'm not laughing Elissa-- I just went through the same thing with Lucy. It just occurs from trapped moisture. They lick it, it gets worse and the cycle goes on and on. My vet actually mentioned that if she touched the round when she went and stood up, it could trap extra moisture so that could contribute too.
I know exactly what you have to do. Just try hard to remember that you aren't molesting her. I'm allergic to latex and didn't have any non-latex gloves around when she had it so I had to apply the cream "commando," so to speak. (And if you're wondering why I didn't go buy gloves after the first time, I figured it really didn't matter now that I had done it once!) |
Poor Elissa and Rags. Elissa, you've had some 'interesting' topic headers in this section!
That's awesome that she has put on some good weight. Maybe she'll overtake Pepsi soon... |
Sounds like one of our various adventures with Dixie....Low peeing, constant licking so she got swollen, antibiotics and cream....My brother-in-law works for Playtex....good thing.... |
Awww hugs for rags, hope it clears up soon.
TAKE that car for another drive and get rid of that number |
Congrats on the weight gain! Sorry about her being sick though. Good luck keeping her from licking it! Think one of those cone things would work? |
Thanks for the congrats on the weight gain & the sympathy on what I must do. I believe she was 52 lbs when I got her. Skin and bones!
Anyway to stop the low peeing? Is there a way to prevent this kind of thing from happening again? Gotta love the drama! |
Elissa, try a pair of seasonals on her, then she can't lick herself. They come in pretty pastels with flowers for that girly look |
Thanks Holly... Off to Petsmart tomorrow |
Poor Rags!! Hope you can figure out how to keep her from licking herself, Elissa. |
Awe Poor Rags,
Katrina used to get those infections. At first it was very off putting to address her private area. I was freaked out to touch her there initially and she was quite surprised as well. But then you realize it is no different than if you were a vet . You both get used to it and know that you don't really have a choice and it is to help her. And if I wasn't able to do it no one else could help her. Now, not much phases me. WARNING POTENTIALLY GRAPHIC: This is what the Dr. instructed and is what worked for us. Keep the area trimmed regularly. I used to do it with scissors. Being careful to hold the hair away and shield the private area so it wouldn't be cut by accident. I would find there would be clumps of hair that would be clinging inside her. So I would use a washcloth or fingers to pull it from the opening and cut it off. Also there would be a discharge sometimes. So I would have to take a warm washcloth and clean her. Sometimes she would have to have antibiotics. I can't remember what they said caused it, but she did have reoccurences now and then and this is what we did and it worked each time. We were told it was very important to keep the area clean and to use the warm washcloth when possible. I found if I was able to keep the urine drenched hair from going inside her that seemed to help keep it from getting infected. Hope that helps! Hope that Rags feels better! |
Sounds like FUN!!! Ewww
But I really appreciate the advice. Thanks Vegas I am sure this won't be the last time. She gets all jumpy when I go to cut that area. So while we were at the Vet I asked of they could shave her there. They charge $15 I really need to buy a grooming table. It would make my life so much easier. |
The things we do for our dogs Is she better? |
Ha ha LMAO I know right.
I just washed Pepsi's butt and shaved it tonight. Rags is done with the antibiotics and seems not to be licking excessively an longer. Tomorrow I will need to shave her again...down there To keep the problems away. Wish me luck!! |
Every time Daisy was in season my husband would clean and change her, then walk around muttering "I can't believe the things I do". Then he'd go out and buy her some pretty new flowered pants |
LMAO!! I wish Billy would help out with the dogs.
But I agreed when I decided to get another Sheepdog (even though she's his dog) that I would take care of all the grooming issues. I was not expecting this though. |
Sammi has Vaginites:( Could she have gotten it from PetsMart when they bathed and brushed her? That was about the time she starting being wet on her peepee. The moment we took her out of there she started sitting down a lot and licking herself. Poor baby, she's only 4 months old |
Randi,
It is caused by trapped moisture. Does she touching the ground while urinating? Rags squats against the ground It also could be from moisture trapped in the hair surrounding the area. I shaved Rags down there. Seems so have done the trick. She had a 7 day course of Antibiotics and a cream I had to apply. Oh the joys of having Female dogs lol |
I'm not sure. There is so much hair around her I can't see. I did have her butt shaved but it may have been too late. I should have known this. I have had 2 female sheepies before. I'm getting old and apparently forgot She's on 10 days worth of antibiotics. She seems to be doing better already.
OH ya.. the joys of a female dog..LOL |
All I can say is EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW and SOOOOO SORRY!!! |
Hope everyone's "V" problems clear up soon.......... |
