Dexter WILL NOT stop trying to herd the cars on our evening walks Even tho he has on a gentle lead he will still crouch down and try to jump out at the cars that pass us on our walk..... other than those times he is very good on the walks.. usually staying very close by me.... but those dang cars is enough to drive him crazy... and I'm at my whits end with him over this - he's strong enough I think he might dislocate my shoulder if he choose to I've tried to have him sit while the car goes by and then give him a treat - - and this works for about the first 2 or 3 cars but if a quiet car sneaks up on us and I don't have him sit - he goes crazy trying to herd it - - now I should mention that there is not that much traffic on our walks.... maybe 5 vehicles in all and often we don't encounter any at all - - any suggestions??? thanks t |

how old is dexter? Barney used to be really bad about this too, but he has mostly stopped, through no fault of our own...he just decided not to.
I wish I could be more helpful... |
Dexter's only 7 months old so maybe he'll out grow it |
Chummie does it still at age 9. Loud trucks and buses are the only thing that really get her moving. If we are stopped, I have to distract her in advance. If we are walking, I have to walk fast enough so that she can't pay attention. |
Truman is 3 and still does this too. He "herds" kids on bicycles, moms with baby strollers and, his favorite -- motorcycles. The other day he tried to "herd" a motorcycle cop as I was speeding by! Thanks a lot, Truman, for drawing attention to our speeding car!!! |
