DOes anybody have any ideas for classybut casual center pieces for a afternoon wedding. I've got nothing and we will only be serving finger foods. Our colors are REd and Black. I just don;t know what to do |

Try floating candles... those are always nice, and not very pretentious. You can get glass holders at walmart for a few bucks a piece! The gigantic brandy snifters would be pretty!
I've been to a couple of wedding that had aquatic center pieces, like betta or goldfish. Of course, at one of the weddings we went to, some of the drunken soldier buddies of the groom were umm... eating the center pieces alive so umm... animals lovers beware! You could also do casual summer perrenial bouquets. this is what I did at my wedding... I wanted something nice, but didn't have lots of extra $$ to spend, so we had bouquets of echinacea (purple cone flower)... pretty, cheap, fun and classy. You could do any number of inexpensive perrenials- black eyed susans, sun flowers, talk to a small local florist... they should be able to find something for you. Or snoop around your friend's and family's gardens! I have red bee balm and lillies in the summer time that would make great bouquets try to stay away from the spendy, over done stuff like roses or orchids or carnations, since you're trying to stay casual. You'd be amazed how nice summer perrenials in cheapo vases with a little spool ribbon can look! i love wedding planning! If you need more ideas, let me know!!! |
What time of day and what time of year is your wedding? |
You could use potted herbs, flowers, or plants. Buy (or paint) pots in black and red. They could double as prizes if you are having games. |
I was thinking those mini (not really mini, but not full sized) red metal watering cans that you could fill with some flowers
Or you could sprinkle the table centers with red glass rocks (you can buy them at craft stores) and then have some candles scattered throughout the red glass... Or red rose petals scattered on the tables looks nice with candles, and it wouldn't cost that much to do because you wouldn't overdo it with the petals... |
It is April 13th 2007. In West Texas it can be raining buckets or hot as heck. That is mainly why we chose 2pm for the ceremony and around 3pm for the reception. It will be pretty casual, i am not very girly and never got bitten by the wedding bug. I feel at a loss when i look at every thing that needs to get done. From centerpieces to isle runners??? The main thing is Logdsons Chapel has one huge wall that is stained glass that has a lot of red tones, hey maybe i can get some links so you can see. We are not exactly sure of where the reception wiil be.
http://www.paulagilmorephotography.com/ ... otography/ I am not sure if that worked...Neways, it is the site, you go to the photo galery section then click on traditional Tradtional weddings & brides. The chapel is the only one with stained glass. Shannon |
also no offense but i will have not one iota of "rose". I never really liked them, i thought they lacked orginality. BUT i don;t want all the rose lovers out there to be frumped at me, i appreciate the beauty of all flowers, but i prefer no roses

It's your wedding sweetie- you go with what MAKES YOU HAPPY! And stick to your guns... between now and then everybody and their brother are gonna be telling you what you should do. Just remember- this is you and your fiance's wedding- not your moms, not his moms, not your sisters, not his sisters, not your Aunt Beckys 3xs removed...YOURS!
for spring- red tulips would be LOVELY, and whats great about those- bulbs can be ordered on the cheap via mail order and forced!!!! either for bouquets or in pots! Daffodils are very fun and sunny, but then you're running into yellows. You'vbe got plenty of time, don't rush yourself. Take your time, look around think about your and his favorite things and ways to incorporate them. Don't be afraid to get creative... for instance small toy sheepies with red and black ribbons would make great centerpieces! |
Shannon. Are you getting married in Abilene? That is Terrific. I knew I hadn't heard from you now I know why. How about Sheepies in the Wedding? Congradulations......... Sheepie Hugs, Kaye |
Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. I think you can never go wrong with candles, even little tea lights dotted around the table and say a larger pillar candle in the middle. What about the metallic confetti, you can get teeny tiny hearts or angels, bells, alsorts - just a small amount scattered so the candle light reflects off it - well thats what I had at my wedding and it looked lovely - everyone thought I'd spent a fortune, but it hardly cost me a thing - good luck and can't wait to see the photos |
Shannon, that stained glass window is beautiful! I would think that anything you put in the chapel would be minimal so as not to take away from the beauty of the glass (the church I got married in last summer also had a huge stained glass wall, and we only had one nice-sized flower arrangement to the right of the altar).
I don't know if I would go with any red in the church itself---I think it might blend in too much with the stained glass...what about using a lot of greenery? That is always in season and cheaper than flowers... |
Thanks guys, you helped me get some perspective on the situation. I was just swimming in details. I haven't made any decisions yet but now have some viable alleyways to go down.
I am very gratefull for everybodies opinion. Shannon |
TRY KEEPING A SCRAPBOOK TO HELP YOU MAKE DECISIONS ON STUFF. I HAD PAGES OF DRESSES, CAKES, FLOWERS, PHOTOGRAPHY ETC. THAT I FOUND APPEALING. I TOOK THAT BOOK TO EVERY APPOINTMENT AND EVETRY STORE I WENT TO, TO SHOW THE VENDORS WHAT I LIKED. WHEN I MADE UP MY MIND I PUT IN ALL THE INFO ABOUT THAT ITEM, ALONG WTH THE PICTURE. IT HELPED SO, SO MUCH, AND IT'S A GORGEOUS KEEPSAKE NOW!!! I LOVE LOOKING AT IT |
