Quincey has had his first vacation! Tim and I took the boys to Galiano Island, BC last weekend. We traveled with our two closest friends, who are a second set of doggy parents to Otto and now to Quincey. Galiano is in the Southern Gulf Islands, just north of Washington's San Juan Islands. It is a beautiful, sleepy place with not much to do except explore ridges, forests and wild beaches; relax and read and play games; and check out really interesting art by some very gifted island artists. We stayed at the Bodega Ridge Resort, which is nothing fancy, but great for dogs. We had a simple, 3 BR, 2 BA cabin with a kitchen, a nice deck for enjoying the view of the sunset over the gulf and Vancouver Island, and plenty of wide grassy meadows for dogs to sniff and explore. The only caveat is that the dogs have to be on leash, because the owners have a small herd of sheep. That wasn't a problem for us, because Quincey is far too unreliable to be trusted off leash (EVER) anyway. Both dogs loved climbing the ridge and the forest trails were also a hit. But Quincey really, really loved the beach. I think it was his first encounter with the sea and all the fascinating smells that go with it and he had a ball checking everything out. I've posted some pictures so you can see that happy Sheepie for yourself. It was a wonderful long weekend, the first of many I hope with our Sheepie boy! |
