He had lightened up a bit to a dark gray color...never really turning light gray except for a triangle on his side. I just shaved Pepsi down again last week and looking at him today his coat is coming in darker. A lot of the new hairs are coming in black in certain areas, like his elbows, a patch on his shoulder. Pepsi is now @ 2 yrs. Are there cases of OES going back to black? |

Sometimes if it is shaved too close to the skin it will come in black and then go grey again. |
Some OES go through many color changes, but not all. Tucker is getting
very dark again and he just turned 5. With him we went through a very light stage after he blew his puppy coat, and then he went darker again, lighter again and now he has a lot of black. Zeke is now 15 months and he is very light almost everywhere but at his back. Both of them have black elbows. I wonder if this is because they often come in black where they have lost hair and the elbows are a pressure point? I have not heard of any going back to black and white, but you just never know! I haven't shaved any closer than a #5 lately.
It's not blotchy or anything. It's actually where his white meets the gray on his shoulders. It doesn't seem to be that thick black coarse hair like when they have damaged the coat. It's very soft. Very strange! |
I find the hair is at first dark but as it grows the new hair is lighter. So when the hair is about 4 inches it goes from dark at the tips and gradually turns more and more grey. Jacks grey is light grey and just stays light grey no matter the length.

Elissa pepsi could be starting to sprout his adult mature coat. That usually starts to sprout around that age and comes in at the shoulders as a lot darker, then spreads across the rest of the greys as they mature. |
