Wish Me luck-First half of my EMT exam tonight

After 20+ years of being an RN and several years of being a First Responder I was pressured this winter into taking the EMT class by my Fire Chief significant other. It's been a LONG 5 months of 12 hours of class a week (and a LONG TIME since I had to do any studying). When I first started the class I thought it would be a PIECE OF CAKE, after all I've been a nurse for a zillion years. Well, BOY WAS I WRONG.

Pre hospital is a whole different ball game!!!!!! So I've been struggling right along with all the rest of my fellow students.

Tonight is our NY State skills exam and I'm A NERVOUS WRECK :excited: :excited: Next Thursday is the State written exam (which I am actually LESS nervous about than the skills exam).

WISH ME LUCK

One down and one to go!

BTW, what are non-rebreathers??
An elongated vinyl mask designed for high oxygen concentration while low resistance exhalation valve allows exhaled gas to escape which is attached to a source of oxygen and applied to the patient
Alright Ginny!!!!

Remember, you can usually eliminate 2 of the answers right off the bat and then you can reason out the other two.
When in doubt, the answer is C and go with your first gut instinct and not overthink it!
Congratulations!!!!!!!

Nice to know at those sheepie picnics and play dates an EMT will be on standby!

Can you BELIEVE....... last night we had to test out on 8 mandatory skills and one random. All the "left over" skills were thrown in a hat and you had to draw one, 9 out of 10 of us drew the Sager traction splint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE ONE skill I didn't want to have to do!!! We think they "stacked the deck"
:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :excited: :cheer: :go: :high5:
Sager sucks!! Hare is much better and easier. That's the one skill I always end up having to teach! I always put the loudest, most obnoxious guy in the class in the splint for the demo person too!!!

The question is, did you pass the skill?
OF COURSE I DID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do however refuse to ask the men that AWFUL question "which side do you dress on" ? Most absurd question I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!! If they have a femur fx I seriously doubt that they will be especially concerned if their "bits and pieces" get a little pinched!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might take their mind off the pain of the broken femur!!!!

Apparently you are not a man, who would voluntarily break his other femur if it meant an end to the squeezing of his bits and pieces. Especially the bits. Or is it the pieces.

I suppose if you can't tell with a quick palpation, you/he mightn't have much to worry about.

One other thought... what if the answer is the same side as the fracture? Do you get to address the dressing?
Because the head of the Sagar traction splint (looks a little like the top of a crutch) gets RAMMED up th crotch and strapped tightly down 8O , I suppose one could "adjust" the bits and pieces for comfort if one were so inclined.............. From what I understand, the entire process is so horribly painful that bits and pieces are just another part of the fun 8O 8O

Well, apparently it is excruciatingly painful for at least 1/2 of the men then.

The quick way to find the answer to that would be to start a poll on it, we have that technology.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

OH GOSH and Ed isn't even around to join in the fun.......... OH ED WHERE ARE YOU??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

My stomach just lurched. 37 years ago I dropped out of a class because I was assigned the Sager traction splint demo........I couldn't bring myself to do it. Hell, strap their legs together and roll!
did they even have the Sager splint? Anyway, I got the femur fx demo.....now if I had been more bold I could have had a male model and really had some fun
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
