Welcome to the forum!
Wow! 7 hours of holding it for a puppy is amazing! If you want to wake up later I would try going to bed later, as most pups cannot even sleep as long as yours already does. I'm not as familiar with small breed dogs though, so maybe someone more knowledgeable about these will chip in. |
Wow, maybe you should have your puppy checked for sleeping way too much, and having an enormous puppy bladder! You need to consider yourself lucky, actually.
Perhaps getting up once in the middle of the night would be better for you, perhaps 2AM or so, so you can go to sleep just a bit earlier, the get back to sleep yourself and wake up at your 7AM. Good luck! |
Quote: we have a 5 1/2 month old bichon/mini poodle mix puppy. he only sleeps from about 1030pm - 530am
Consider yourself lucky! Bosley is 14 months old and just recently starting to sleep past 6:00. If we make it to seven we are happy >>> |
When my Toy Poodle Peanut was little he would usually wake up around 2am for potties then back to bed until 7 am. I kind of trained him to get up around 2. I'd rather wake up while it was dark so I could get back to sleep. I think he did this until about 7 months old.
Also after I got him neutered his bladder seemed stronger. He could hold it even if I slept in. I also gave the him his last potty break at 11pm and cut off his water by 9pm. |
I'm going to have to talk to my guys! Other than Simone, the rest are good for 5, maybe 6 hours. |

That's where a dog door comes in handy |
I wish.......but more than likely a striped cat would come thru the door. As it is I have to sniff first before letting them out........ |
Those striped ones are the very very bad types of cats. lol
My Mom used to put the light on outside then yell outside "Dog on the way!" before she let the dog out. lmao..... |
your comment about the "striped cats" reminds me of when I was still at my mother's house about a week after she passed away. When I moved in we had a total of 5 cats and fortunately had a cat door leading out into the garage. Usually the garage door stayed shut at night, but after mother passed away, with all the people coming and going, the garage door got left open.
I was sleeping in the basement at the time and got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, after hearing strange noises. On my way to the stairs, I saw this "striped cat" in the basement and obviously did not go back down. I tried to leave the doors open and the stairs to the upper portion of the house blocked but it didn't leave. The next morning there were several people in and out of the house and I warned everyone I was unsure about an unwelcome guest in the basement. but there was no sign of it anywhere and everyone became more relaxed. I had gotten a trap and set it in the basement that morning, but nothing there either. Everyone left that day for the weekend, but I decided I'd better stay to resolve the situation. That evening, it came out again but never touched the trap ( I had put crackers and cat food in it). The next day I set the trap again but used chicken wings this time - that night I caught the skunk, covered the trap and took it outside until my BIL returned home on Sun. He took it to a remote area and released it, said that since it had been in the house for nearly 3 days and never sprayed, it deserved a second chance. When I put a cat door in my next home, I put it in a window that was not on ground level but easy for the cats to get to. I didn't want a second go round. Unfortunately, there's nowhere to put one here tho. |
