We've had two fights already....oh dog fights not people fights...lol. HELP....any suggestions? And yes I've thought of an escape plan. Ok rant over... |

You can get a masking spray for bitches in season to help allieviate the odour that the boys have radared in on. Maybe if you can disguise that with a spray (there is ones available at pet stores) it might settle them all down for you.
That's the trouble the BOYS KNOW EXACTLY what is going on!! Potty dawn in a completely seperate are to where the boys go, never let the boys into that area that dawn has been till her season is over and hopefully the boys will loose the sense of what is going on with dawn! Maybe with dawn barking from the crate when you are not there, try covering it with a towel or blanket and pop some toys in with her to settle her while you are not with her, then she can't see out and start barking for you when you are elsewhere in the house. You have my sympathy too, that is why later it was all entire girls instead of a mix. And Carl picked a good time to be away |
Yikes. My only suggestions would be to either get the masking spray or board her at your vet's office/kennel until she's out of heat. Maybe you have a friend who would be willing to watch her a few days? |
Wow - good luck. Sympathies in FL!!! |

Most dogs are in heat for 3 or 4 weeks...not like cats where it's only a few days..... I'm sorry I have nothing to offer but sympathy as I have no experience with having an intact male around females. I did have a rescued boxer once who was around when my female great dane went into heat, but I promptly took him in to be nuetered and that was the end of that. With cats they say the scent of vanilla on a female can help the males lose their radar... LOL But I have no idea if this would work with dogs. |

Since Carl needs to go out of town, Dawn should drive That should restore your sanity. You would not have to worry about Carl driving and it will get Dawn out of the house..... |
Scotch.
Actually, I remember when our St. Bernard smelled a neighborhood bitch in season. I don't know where she was, but he howled, whimpered, sang and generally worked himself into a lather (literally). I ended up trying brandy on him. Didn't work, just made his howling sloppy. So I tried the brandy on me... I have no solution other than keeping them separate. This is not the time for scratched doors, peed carpets, etc but this is what happens when you keep intact animals. Nature interferes. Sorry you are having to go thru this now. |
Sounds like total CHAOS!!! I can offer nothing but my sympathy! |
Thanks everyone for the sympathy and the suggestions.
Zahra: And the funniest part is when our Bedlington thinks he's one of the big dogs! lol Hey maybe he could be navigator on their road trip...na....if anyone is going anywhere ****I**** am! I'm not so worried about me...ya right....but about the neighbors! Sheepieboss: maybe I should send a "gift" over to the neighbors....they did just move in....???mmm....lol....a little sedative would be welcome about now. We only have a few more weeks here and I'd like to leave as quietly as possible. Plus I just don't think it's fair to them to have to put up with OUR crazy doggers. Not that they have been barking nonstop or I haven't been right on top of it but....it can be annoying when you think everyone is quiet and then Virgil decides for one more whooooffff. It does seem to have settled down. Dawn has decided that during nap time mom does not have to reside in the room so I am now free to supervise upstairs for a few hours while she snoozes. I have to say that there have been really funny parts to this. Last night the kids and I tried to leave the house to rent a video. We had it all planned. We'd take Brigham with us (he's the worst!!!). So we put Dawn and Josie in the basement. AAAhhh, they were quiet. Got the big boys in their crates in the master bedroom. Ok, so far so good. Brigham is leashed and at the door. Yes! We are going to make it......then......Farouk decided to start howling....(remember he's a hound)...aaaOOOOOOOahhhOOOO....that starts to hurt Jeffurry's ears so he is going yip yip yip yip.....then Virgil and Martin (it's very unusual for Martin to bark) decide they cannot be outdone....BOOOFFFF BOOOFFFF BOOOFFF and just when I think it can't get worse......I hear from the basement....little girl squeaks....I look at the kids...they are staring at me....and we just loose it laughing. The only one I've ever had a problem with barking in the crate has been Brigham...everyone else goes to bed without a complaint. I hope this will pass when Dawnie is done. Thank goodness for really really REALLY helpful sacrificing children. If I'm in H*%L at least I have great company. Now to figure out how I'm going to get Carl from the bus station at 11:30 pm. when I haven't figured out how to leave the house for 5 days. |
Just imagine how much MORE you'll appreciate Carl tomorrow! |
Ron
That assumes that Carl REDUCES the stress....I'm not sure that he does |
Of COURSE he does!
I assume he WILL be reading this... |
Just found out about a new Bedlington forum!
http://bedlington.forum24.se Should be a wonderful forum, Bedlingtons are so unique! I'm going to post it in General Chit chat too... Enjoy! |
ahhhuuuhhhh Zahra...????... how do I get that in English? lol
thanks...I'll figure it out. |
You certainly have my sympathy. With 3 boys and Daisy I tried everything and none of it worked I used an entire bottle of rescue remedy in one night trying to keep the boys quiet. Since my husband was on a fishing trip I spent the whole night with Daisy in my truck, running in and out of the house so the boys knew I was still there. The final solution ended up being taking Daisy to our cottage for 3 weeks until it was over, we finally had her spayed. |
Hi, I used the Vanilla under the nose when I was in the same situation with Frank & Rebecca. Plus I also gave Frank Benidryl for a few days right in the prime time of the cycle which did seem to help ever so slightly. Plus someone told me about a dog show trick to put Vicks Vapor Rub in the nostrils to keep the boys from going nutty around an in season bitch at shows. Haven't done that yet but I know it's been used regularly for some time. |
