I live a few hours north of Chambersburg. I don't know much about the area except that I drive through it quite regularly and I can tell you it is BEAUTIFUL country. I seem to remember Carlisle being a typical "coal mine town" (kinda old and dirty) but I haven't been there is quite some time. But that whole area of Pa is really very lovely. |
We live about 50 miles from Carlisle. I think Pa. is a beautiful state too.My daughter doesn't like it though . She thinks theirs nothing to do here. I think it all depends what you like. If you don't like the country your within a three hour drive of Philadelphia , New York, Baltimore and Pittsburg. I personally love it here. |
We live near Hershey and I think this area is wonderful. I have lived
here all my life. Some of our towns are being built up rather quickly, but some areas are preserving the farmland. I actually live in a really small town, but we are close to so many things. In an afternoon we can get to NYC, DC, Philly, the beach, several rivers, lots and lots of farm land. We have pretty much anything you could want in this area. I live about an hour from Lewisberry so I don't know much about the schools there, but the schools around our area are mostly top notch. Housing is pretty good right now, but the developments seem to me to be really expensive. The older houses are the deal right now. I never thought Carlisle was a coal mine area - most of that is farther north. (but maybe I am wrong) It is the home of Dickenson college and a historic area, close to Gettysburg. It is a very nice area - about 40 minutes away from us. I wouldn't be upset if I had to move there - and I am a country girl. Great area - central PA is great. Shellie |
Maybe it's one of the original "railroad" towns, I am not sure. I know it's one of Pa's oldest towns so I think I just assumed it was coal town. |
I live in PA but not near any of those towns - more eastern PA, about 90 miles north of Philly.
It is a great area in that we are so close to many big cities, as has been said. So if you want a day on the town, you can easily do it. If you want a day in the country, just as easy. Plus we have Lancaster County, which is home to a lot of Amish and Mennonites, and there is a whole tourism scene around there. |

Good grief, that still makes me laugh! Sorry, just ignore me. It's Monday and I'm already losing it. |
Too funny, Jil! And how about the broccoli juice??
Happy Monday! |
