I am bringing her to the groomers this week, for nail trimming, ear cleaning and I GUESS face trimming... I am so afraid she will come out with some stupid poodle or schnauzer look. I think I am going to be hated by the groomer real fast! |
|
TAKE IN A PICTURE OFF THE FORUM OF WHAT YOU WANT HER TO LOOK LIKE. THAT SHOULD HELP YOU GET THE LOOK YOU WANT WITHOUT PUTTING THE GROOMER INTO CONIPTIONS TRYING TO TRANSLATE! |
If you buy the teeny little elastic bands you could try making one little topknot over each eye until Stella's hair has grown enough to make one big topknot. We've even used little barrettes in Maggie's hair to help hold it back. My husband suggested hair mousse but I don't like the idea of this around a puppy's eyes.
It won't take long to grow enough for one topknot. If you cut her bangs you'll be fighting this problem forever. Your groomer probably has these bands or you can get little kids hair elastics (I think they're silicone bands, rubber bands damage the hair). Waiting for pics of the outcome! |

Perfect, starting her with the groomer young so she can get used to grooming and the environment. Don't be afraid to talk with the groomer in person before you even bring her in. Be very specific about what you want or don't want for grooming. A groomer who loves to work with OES is a treasure. Not all groomers want to work with large dogs or esp. OES. If this groomer is easy to work with, my suggestions is to stay with her if you like her work. Here on the forum are great articles on brushing and ear care. That's how you can help take care of Stella in between appointments. Good luck! Stella is beautiful and will give you years of sheepie caring and love. Please post pictures-we love pictures Zahra (sorry didn't sign in ) |

Wow...Stella is a giant now....a big fluffy kissable giant...what a beauty!
But she is falling into the eyeless sheepdog catagory |
That's a rough stage because, as you said, it's too short for the topknot, but long enough to get in her eyes. My best advice is, don't cut the top but cut between the eyes, getting all those hairs that fan into the corners, and up to where the "forehead" is. Clyde looked like Frankenstein when I didn't explain well enough what I meant by that when I told the groomer to "trim it so it doesn't get in his eyes." |
Wow! Stella is soo cute! Looks like she has grown quickly- how old is she? |
Stella has grown, she is looking beautiful.
You can get some dental bands, the same little elastics they use with braces and just use two one above each eye for her to see at this time, till it is long enough for a slide clip then later for a top knot. You do have to snip the dental band when removing it so it does not rip out the coat. You can get them in a packet with 100 or so in it for just a few dollars. They are very tiny and great for this stage. |
lisa that is a great idea. do you just go to the orthodontist to get them?
cinemarco looks like a teddy bear!!! |
Orthodontist yes, here we can buy them also at a chemist/pharmacy (I think you guys call it a Drug Store) too
The hair between the eyes that sticks up like a little fan, it is better not to cut there at all. Grow it and it starts to drop down either side of the muzzle under the eyes. In the meantime to help it sit flat between the eyes, get a little fine metal come, mist a little bit of water onto that area, make a part in the middle just between the eyes at the top of the muzzle comb that hair flat either side of the muzzle under the eyes. As soon as you have length there is falls flat. If you keep cutting it you keep having the same problem when it starts to grow with it sticking up like a little fan under & between the eyes. Here is her at about 10 weeks old you can see the coat around the eyes fanning up and she is starting to have trouble seeing, about a fortnight after this I started using the Dental Bands and started to comb the hair down either side of the muzzle so it would start to stay down and grow that way. This is a shot of the fully grown head coat with all the hair where it should be, all laying across the top of the muzzle either side and not interferring with the eyes even without a top knot in and you can also see where I part the coat on the muzzle right down to the nose. Then it is easy to put a top knot in and no hair in the eyes and bits sticking out everywhere when the head coat is longer If you keep cutting that area you keep having the same problems with the fanning and bits sticking up everywhere as it grows a little bit longer |
HEY Thanks for all the great advice. Stella is 20 weeks today. I postponed the groomer visit (Until she her UTI is cleared up) But, when I take her, I'm going to be really specific. Until then, I like the idea about the small rubber bands. Her comfort is more important than anything, so if it does come down to major trimming or even shaving (If the summer is really hot) I will happily abide, but being that she is so young, I am really loving the little fluffy girl as she is. You always her about how high maintenance this breed is, it may be true, but what you get in return makes all the attention, worry, hard work, and pure labor, a complete pleasure. Thanks again!

OH MY...SHE IS ADORABLE! |
Wow, is Stella a big fluffy ball of CUTENESS! Boy do I want a puppy. And LisaOES Wow, beauty to be aspired to. |
Ok, so She went to the groomer and I couldn't be happier. He understood completely what I wanted and agreed to work with me to keep her in full coat as long as possible. He cleaned up her face, without compromising her natural look and did all the ear cleaning, nail clipping etc.
He said he has done many OES pups and has never seen such a sweet tempered, happy little girl. |
She is adorable! The groomer did a fantastic job! |
She looks wonderful.... Don't lose that groomer!
I cannot believe how big Stella looks. |
Stella looks incredible -- so soft and fluffy and white and pretty. She looked pretty darn great in the before pics too. Enjoy your beautiful girl! |
She looks like a perfect puppy who's never even seen a pair of scissors. Very Nice!! |
wow--that's a great haircut! She's beautiful!! |
Wow Mark, she has gotten BIG! She looks great! |
Thanks everyone! It's amazing how she is growing up so fast. Not only is she huge, but she has calmed down a lot and has easily picked up the rules of the house. I've never seen anything like it with a pup. I think having Zak (my older dog) has helped a lot with her understanding how things work. Looking at all of your beautiful dogs... I can't wait until she grows even more.
