Why Climb or Jump a Gate When you can Smash?

Clyde and Bear found a better way around the baby gate a few mornings ago-- work together and headbutt it down like a couple of battering rams! James didn't want to wake me up the night before so he latched it very lightly. Somehow, Bear and Clyde sensed the weakness. I kept hearing SMASH SMASH every few minutes. Half asleep, I thought someone was breaking in. Before I could get my senses together enough to wonder why the dogs we're barking, I heard a huge crash and Clyde and Bear both came bounding up the hall and jumped into bed with us. Those two tough guys scared the crap out of each other by actually knocking the gate down. Goofballs!

Hilarious. What a pair!
to funny :D :D
 ...and here I always thought our dogs just slept when we left the room!

(a little off topic) I always wonder about those baby gates. To me, I always think most of them can be smashed down and worry about baby j leaning against the ones near the staircase. Of course, it just means supervision and not letting him... but I'm just saying some of them don't seem very sturdy (unless they are wooden).
Pictures...too bad you missed that photo op. :D
Sky smashes the gate too, which is one reason we now use an old crib rail with hinges screwed into the wall on one side and a hook lock on the other.

Joahaeyo, in regards to that, I always worried about that too, and especially after a plastic gate is a little older and worn, they are not as sturdy at all. Once I had 3 little ones running around I invested in really high quality gates that had mounting brackets that permanently attach to the frame of the doorway you put them in.
Even better, is a homemade wooden gate that my cousin's hubby made. It is so sturdy a 300 lb man could fall into it and it won't budge. It's made of wood, like a half door with a proper frame and latch like a fence gate. It also looks beautiful, a country kitchen look.
My kids all survived despite crappy gates though... but I would have worried less if I had gotten better quality from the start.
The only reason we even use the gate is to give Lucy peace and quiet during the night and keep the boys with us. We don't need ours to do much. Unfortunately, a prerequisite of it working at all is actually latching it! I appreciate that James didn't want to wake me up but I ended up waking up with a heart attack instead. Ours is a wooden pressure gate. Fully latched, both of the boys have been up on it before and it didn't budge and that's about 200 pounds (I was trying to see if Bear had any climbing skills, he didn't). Most of the time they never touch it but sometimes one of the two will sleep by it and push it with his feet. That must've been when they realized it wasn't tight!
Toby, aka The Ringleader, has taught Carl to knock down the baby gates. He has Carl lean against the gate and then he jumps on the top of it. Between the two directions of pressure, the gate will come down. Carl is afraid of the noise it makes when it falls and doesn't like the texture so he won't walk on it. Toby will go over, under or through anything!

I can see this is going to cause an amazing amount of havoc in about 2 weeks!
That's hilarious, Jill! I can see those two are going to keep you on your toes!
LMAO
What smart boys you have Jill
