How do you spend your days?

Other than here on the forum that is. I didn't realize until I read an earlier post that Valerie was an atty. I knew we had kitchen designers, a few work-a-holic Moms, some that are retired, a few angels and well we can't forget Ron.

I work for an Authorized Representative for Sprint/Nextel. We currently have four stores and I am one of the managers and also handle all of the bookwork.

I figure this way, since we already depend on each other, we at least know who to expect advice from on the off dog subjects.

Sprint Nextel is actually one of our clients. We produce some of their incentive awards programs.

I work for a Japanese owned pharmaceutical company in the Investigator Research Grants group.
I'm the Information Officer for Wayne State University in Detroit. I do marketing and communications, publications, presentations for the big wigs and generally strive to make us look good.

After working for a not for profit organization, I'm not sure I could ever return to the real working world!
I have been a massage therapist for 12 years and am the owner/spa director of Spa Sublime, a dayspa. Ya'll come visit
I work for my grandparents window and screen door factory. Which is definitely NOT my forever job. I will get back to school to finish my degree. Which is culinary arts (baking and pastry), however I have been moving further and further away from that . I've been getting back into theatre more and more. (I was a drama kid in high school and went really far with it.) Boy, I just can't stay away.
I am Controller (AKA Accountant). I lovemy job but refuse to do anyones taxes!!!
If you want to know how to make a BMT you can count on me, I own 3 Subways.
Another Controller here, although I seem to spend my time doing and not controlling, LOL.

I work for a marketing research firm that does only automotive research.

Oh, and I don't do taxes either!
I am a professional Slacker.
I work for Citi doing loans etc... I hate my job.... most boring thing I have ever done, but I have stuck with it for several years because the hours are great, the pay is decent etc and it allows a lot of flexibility when my kids need me etc.
I also build websites and do computer repair at home. I would really like to develop on that so that I can quit my slacker job and work from home.
I'm a funeral director/embalmer for a large family owned funeral home...we got three funeral homes in the area.

Hubby does the 9-5 stuff....:D
Senior Executive house management co-ordinator  (fancy name for stay at home mom  )
I am semi-retired from Information Systems Management. I worked in the financial industry for many many years; most recently as a manager of several areas of responsibility including unix systems administration for a giant but not well known bank. Before that my applications were mostly portfolio management systems and other accounting applications. I also worked for a huge mutual fund company where my group was responsible for a set of tough-to-calculate numbers on customer statements. Actually, it was nearly impossible for the customer to calculate on his/her own in a large percentage of cases.

Joan is in national account food sales; she is currently selling spices. Before spices she's sold everything from fish to beef to pasta.
WOW!!! What an interesting and DIVERSE group!!! From this group alone we can get our sandwiches for lunch, our cell phones to call home, our computeres fixed, be well CONTROLLED (what ever that is), find an attorney to get us out of jail, have a relaxing massage after a stressful day, get lots of IMFORMATION about I'm not sure what, and if all else fails get embalmed and burried

Oh yea, I'm a Registered Nurse running a Cardiac Rehab program
Is it just me, or were accountants involved in cash flows called "comptrollers" as opposed to "controllers", or is that something else?
I'm a Registered Nurse, now working in the public schools.
I've worked for a Medical School, hospitals and a huge Oncology practice.
Everything I've done prepared me for the variety of needs of the kids.

I have three kids in college - one graduating in May, one graduating in June and one graduating in five years if she can talk her dad into letting her get her doctorate. 8O

Well, in order of importance:

1. I am a wife (to a wonderful, beautiful, wonderful…did I say wonderful???..man) :hearts:

2. I am a mommy (to two incredible, sweet boys!) :hearts:

3. I am a teacher (to my kids) - I strive to enrich their lives and touch their hearts, to raise them to be good men, to be humble, to be men of God, to be loving Husbands, loyal friends, just to do their best, I ask nothing more!

4. I am a daughter, granddaughter, aunt, sister, friend (equally)

5. I am a Paralegal/Office Manager for a small firm (we do the most cases in our specialty than another firm in Florida)! I have been with the owner/head attorney from the get-go….we are more like family at our firm than “co-workers”! We laugh, cry, hangout…..all the fun stuff! I LOVE MY JOB! It pays well and since we are so close, I have flexible hours and pretty much can do what I want, when I want…… :go: which is good for a young family!

So, no.’s 1-4, while they do not pay money for bills and such…..are the most rewarding jobs I could have……..I LOVE THEM MORE THAN ANYTHING!!!!!!! My “real” job is just what I do for now, until my Hubby makes more $$$! (He, is an Engineer and has a flooring business on the side!)

THAT’S IT……THAT IS MY STORY!!!!!

I'm a busy stay at home mom with a 3 year old and a 4 year old. My husband and I also run a website development company. He does most of the work part-time since it's a hobby for him, but I take over when he's deployed or busy. :) My primary jobs are taking care of the house, taking care of the kids, and we (the boys and I) do a lot of volunteer work with our church. My husband has a federal civil service job at the air force base here as a H/VAC operator. He's also a full-time college student and a member of the Mississippi Air National Guard (which unfortunately has him deployed more than he was active duty air force).
Well i work for Abilene Habitat for Humanity as the manager of family services and coordinate all volunteer programs, which is immense considering volunteers is are only basis for sonstuction staff wed. - sat!!! I am also a full time student 8O Latley i ahve had a hard time effectlivly manageing my resposiblilty at work school and "tending" to my relationships. My finace just got a new job at the Juvinell Justice Center which is more career oriented for him, he's majoring in Poloce Science. He also goes to scholf rom 8am-2pm and works form 3pm-pm. You may be able to tell we are stuggling :x I know i know it'll get better, be patient.

Sorry for the vent fest

I'm a medical librarian at a community hospital (121 beds). Do research for physicians and nurses. I love my job. I love my boss. I love the hospital. Truly. I'm incredibly happy and hope to retire here. Plus it's only 9 miles from my house and 11 miles from the barn, home of Bob the Wonder Pony.
I'm a product specialist for a software company that produces commercial loan servicing software for banks and non bank financial institutions. I travel with the sales team to do demos, and also conduct workshops and training. Prior to this I worked for banks in commercial loan servicing, project management and as an account manager.

What a cool job Paula :) I was going to be a librarian but never finished, life got in the way
I have been a Registered Nurse over 20 years in
various specialties-crisis intervention for children and
adults, family practice and surgical nursing.

Also have an Aesthetician license with Medical Aesthetic certificate.

Currently transitioning to holisitic health and fitness career.

Paula, I just added you to my speed dial :D
Wow! 8O What an impressive and at the same time intimidating list! Here's my story.

For the past 26 years I have been an administrative assistant, or admin (a new fangled term for "secretary") for a global industrial gases and chemical company. Although it sounds like a fairly menial job, believe me - it is not! As technology evolves, so do the programs that we use to keep the company going! If all goes well, I will retire in 2 years. Will only be able to collect my pension, but not my 401Ks or social security. But hubby will still be working and both the kids college bills will be behind us, so it will be okay.

Before working here I spent 7 years in the office at a car dealership. And before that, in what seems like a prior life, I was a hairdresser. Did that for 3 years, until my hands couldn't take the solutions any more. But the training saved us a boatload of money over the years. My husband hasn't seen a barber/stylist in 33 years, my son never went to a barber/stylist until he went to college, and my daughter didn't start going to a stylist for coloring until last year. So I guess I got my parents' money's worth out of that schooling!

Paula, may I have you home, cell and work phone number PLEASE......my hospital doesn't have ANYONE to do research for us anymore. They figure in this day and age of the internet we should be able to find it ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow! There's more of me out there!

I'm an Accountant (Univ of OK) working in a Dodge Dealership as the Comptroller.

I used to work for a broadcasting company, and still occationally do voice overs for commercials.

I'm also a wife, mom (to human kids, dog kids and cat kids), cooker, cleaner (well not really...I have a cleaning woman, but I do dishes and make beds!!!), laundress, shopper and a bunch of other stuff!

I think most of us Comptrollers spend a good portion of our day "putting out fires", so ... I guess we're firepersons too!!!

You took the words right out of my mouth. I don't need kids, I've got coworkers.
By day, I am a federal 9-1-1 dispatcher. It's not nearly as exciting as you'd think. It's mainly a lot of people who call and ask if this is 9-1-1. Only really good when people who actually need help call. And no, we don't hang up on little kids who call for help even if we think they might be faking! If I were you Michigan people I'd be scared!

By night, I own a sound company that does sound reinforcement for bands or events. That's not nearly as exciting as it seems either! The best part is my husband is the front of house guy for the company which means he works for me, WooHoo!!

On the weekends I am the music director for a professional soccer team. Which is the fancy title for dj. The regular people definition is I'm the one who plays CHARGE and all that stuff.

I also produce sports broadcasts for the local ClearChannel radio station. Every once in a while they need a female for a voiceover and I run in and do a couple of lines. (Deb, next time they're looking for a new girl to do voiceovers, you should send your tape in! Most of the stuff is done out of the area and sent in on-line, you could work from home!)
That's cool Mandy.... actually maybe you can answer a question for me...
A girl I know at work went to school specifically to become a dispatcher for fire, medical or police. She has applied to a few, and gotten an interview twice. Then she went on to do what she called a "prefix test" where they actually test her as if it were a real dispatch caase, and she has failed both times. She has been wanting to know if there is anything available to help her practice for this? Since they only give one shot.... she now thinks she is not cut out for the job and feels her education has been a waste.
I looked online for her and was not able to find anything.
WOW Mandy, you are one busy lady!!!
Stacey, there are some websites out there with real calls for practicing. Here's one that we use for new people:: http://www.dispatchzone.com/audio_scenarios.cfm
That link will take her to the page with the calls. She needs to practice getting all the info on the first shot and categorising the call appropriately and doing it all within a minute. That's really what they are looking for. They're also watching to see if she's doing it well and not totally freaking out. Practice is definitely the key!

I get bored easily, have to keep myself busy!
Thanks! That's great! :)
Lets see

Each day is what I call Panic Mode.....what needs to be done yesterday and so it goes on
Wow, it's really cool to hear what everyone does. So many talented, smart people here.

I'm an active military wife which basically a job in itself. Since my husband is an officer, there are a lot of "clubs" they really encourage (FORCE) us to be a part of. Otherwise your husband looks bad as a boss, and the wives of the people he commands have no one to help them.

Someone has to be there every step of the way teaching the other wives how to cope with depression, the MILITARY, what resources are there for them, spousal abuse, tell them to pay their dang bills (because there are a few that don't) ...bla bla bla ...the list is endless.

So if I'm not in a meeting taking notes since we are basically our husband's neck (what man remembers that he has to go to the field in 2 wks and has to bring 20 boxers...) ...I'm sending emails out to all the wives to tell them what's up or doing a fundraiser, preparing for deployment, or at a "coffee."

And most importantly I'm at home being MOM to baby J :D
How do I spend my days?

Lets see........

Well I always get woken by a rather large furry bottom sitting on my head at approximately 6.30am
Its time for toilets and breakfast
Once Ive done this I probably could slip back to bed for another sleepin but mostly I dont.

Then I check the email
then its walk time because theres not much choice I get so hassled

Then I shower have coffee and check my Ebay listings

After I finished all that stuff I think about painting.

12 midday I have Lunch and sit and watch a movie
Normally its time to go to work then and I dont return till 12 midnight

This happens 8 days a fortnight

On my days off I try and catch up with family and friends or I have a dog show

2 days a week Im brushing and bathing my 2 babies Maggie is pretty good She takes about 3 hours Cooper however takes forever.

Gee I wished for him to have a profuse coat....well be careful what you wish for. hey????
I thought I'd post again on this thread because I find myself referring to it repeatedly. I want to check off the little box so I'm notified of any new posts! We have a lot of new members to I thought it would be interesting to here about what they do on a daily basis...and I'm nosey! :D
Here's a tutorial (with pictures!) on how to do that without having to post:

http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=6183
I am a Student Services Testing Center Coordinator. I give out placement tests at the local technical school. I'm also the mean lady who gives the Asset tests to your poor children in high school... whoooooo!

Actually, I'm probably the nicest tester there is right now, everyone is pretty mean about giving out tests. I'm a bit more relaxed about it and make sure all of my students know that they can take it again and get a better score later so they don't freak out.

It's a fun job (sometimes) - but I would like to go on and get my master's degree in education and doctorate in art history... or maybe... something to do with animals. Arts or animals - those are the most fun things ever.

(God I write like a 12 year old lol)
Well, I got promoted. Because my grandmother is ill I now do her job. Good news is I work in an air conditioned office now. Bad news is I had to learn all of the stuff she does in a short amount of time.
Congrats on the promotion. You'll do great!!! I'll trade you jobs.
I've spent more time putting out fires this week than doing my actual job. I took a 2 hour lunch today!!
My husband & I both work out of our house creating graphics. I'm the "creative" and he's "everything else". We can produce pretty much anything here from the house: Brand Logos & Identity, marketing collateral, packaging, product development, display graphics & web design. We have a couple of printers here to do short run printing. And we also have a huge printer to produce display graphics. We feel fortunate because we have a diversified group of clients, and the variety helps us not to get bored. Right now our bread & butter has been package design for a home office/crafting/scrapbooking company, who sells their products at Big Box Stores like Costco. (Costco shoppers, peruse the isle that is selling cork boards and you will see a puppy pic of Frank on the package. )

In our spare time we occasionally DJ at art galleries & lounge-like night clubs.

And an ongoing hobby of mine has been being a volunteer firefighter (22 years now). I've kind of put the firefighting on the backburner temporarily, as I have only been making occasional calls lately.
I work in the office of an elementary school. I pretty much do anything that has to do with students, money and staff. Unlike middle schools and high schools where the office staff are specialized (i.e. registrar, bookkeeper, clerk, etc.), elementary school secretaries "do it all." On any given day, I enroll students, do the computerized bookeeping, track the budget, arrange transportation for students, order the school lunches, hand out bandaids, wipe away tears, and on and on....... Sometimes, I'm on the phone, have students and parents standing at my desk, have the intercom going off and a crying kindergartener tapping my shoulder all at the same time! Constant interruptions are the norm and multi-tasking is a must! It gets real hectic but, it's fun and the kids are a blast. When I closed the books for the fiscal year last month it balanced to the penny the first time I tried. I almost cried tears of joy!
