Any Advise for a Mom that feeling Guilty

I've been so busy at work the last couple weeks. We do all our upgrades in the spring/summer. So I've been slammed. When I'm not at work--I'm remoting into the system to apply patches, reboot servers, or install software. Barkley has been pretty patient, but I know he's feeling neglected. I was going to rescue another dog to help provide him with some companionship while I'm away--but the rescue process was slow, and things began happening at work so fast that I got covered up, before I could get the process underway. Now I don't want to bring another dog into the mix until the busy season is over, because I don't think it would be fair. Any suggestions to make things easier for Barkley over the next couple months? We've got major projects scheduled right through the end of May!

I know how hard it is. When I had to stay at my parents for a couple of months, it just killed me to know Mojo was home alone.
When I would get to come home for a day or two I had bills and housework to catch up on. We did manage to get a little play time in here and there.
Now that I am back home, he rarely leaves my side. It's really sweet but half the time I trip over him!!
I've no suggestions at the moment, just a lot of empathy!

Others here will testify as to my working hours since November and I'm in the same boat.

Too bad we're not closer, we could get the kids together to burn off some energy while we're working.

The guilt is killer, isn't it?!
I SPEND A LOT OF TIME A WORK AS WELL. I DON'T KNOW IF ITS POSSIBLE, BUT I LIVE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD AND LOTS OF THE KIDS IN THE NEIGHBOR HOOD LOVE OLIVE. I AM FRIENDS WITH SOME OF TH EPARENTS AND I FOUND A DOG "SITTER\WALKER" FOR THE AFTERNOON TIME. AT LEAST SHE GETS ATTENTION AND A GOOD WALK EVERY AFTERNOON. tHE KID IS 13 AND ACTIVE IN CHURCH AND VERY RESPONSIBLE SO I TRUST HER. SHE ALSO HAS A PUPPY THAT OLIVE GETS TO PLAY WITH TOO. SO FAR THE SITUATION IS GOING WELL. SHE ALSO DOES NOT COST ME MUCH. hER MOTHER WANTED HER TO LEARN RESPONSIBILITY AND THE MOTHER KEEPS WATCH TO MAKE SURE SHE IS DOING HER "JOB" EVERY WEEKDAY. JUST A SUGESTION. I KNOE IT IS NOT YOU AND YOU WISH YOU COULD BE THERE, BUT IT WILL SUFFICE FOR A LITTLE WHILE.
Could you take him to a doggy daycare a couple of days a week? That way he would be entertained and you wouldn't have to feel so guilty for not being home.
I agree, a day at a day care or even a dog walker is a great idea. You can usually get a dog walker to come out for about $15, which isn't too bad for a little entertainment for Barkley. My doggie day care bill keeps getting bigger and bigger-- something about me getting more dogs!
The wonderful thing about dogs is they are so FORGIVING!!!! Even when you are busy at home I'm sure just you presence is enough! Daycare is a good idea or maybe you could just hire a local highschool kid to come take him on some extra walks during the week.
I know it's hard not to feel guilty. We have a place in northern MI that I took Daisy to a few times, they have high school kids to walk the dogs and in warm weather they take them swimming in the lake. The drawback is that they kennel them :( but I always knew she was safe. After the first couple of days I had to bribe her with a sandwich from Subway or she wouldn't get out of the truck  With 3 walks each time (no swimming) it cost me about $25 per visit.
Petsitter is another idea. You hire people to come to your home while you are away to feed and exercise your dog. Maybe you could get one to come several times a week to play and walk with your dog. You might feel better with a bonded and insured petsitter than with a neighborhood kid........tho I like that idea too.
