I couldn't figure out how to get the blade off the clippers. (I know now, but only after I did something stupid. ) So, I unscrewed the blade to get it apart to clean it. There is a little piece of plastic, brown, that fits into the grove/channel on the smaller portion of the blade (the part that moves back & forth). I dropped it and it fell under my deck (not possible to get it back). Soooo.....I was wondering, if anyone has an old blade, that perhaps does not work anymore, and you'd be willing to sell that little piece of plastic to me? I've looked and could not find it listed as an available "spare part" replacement from Oster. I hate to have to buy a whole new blade as the one I have is brand new. Anyone? Thanks. |

Hmmm. We have a couple old clippers at home, that were give to us a while ago. I'll check what they are.
What size blade is it? |
#10
but I think this piece is interchangable. Thanks! |
I checked out two older Oster blades we have.
It comes apart in four pieces, right? The large, toothed flat piece, then a part shaped like a horseshoe that has screw holes in it, a third smaller part that has screw holes in it, then the toothed peice that moves. The only bit of plasctic I can see is about the size of a toothpick, but not as long. It is pretty well attached to the second horseshoe-shaped piece, and doesn't look removeable. There is no plastic piece on the part of the blade that moves. Does this sound right? |
Hi
Take your blade to a person who sharpens blades/scissors. Look in the yellow pages. Once you take the screws out you have to know what tension to put on it when putting it back together or else it will not cut properly for you. You can get replacement parts, most of the doggy magazines have parts. Barbara |
Yes, Nicole - that little plastic piece sounds like what I meant. Thanks for checking.
Barbara - thanks for the info. Pam (Shuffles) told me about a guy who lives near me who does this kind of work. I'm going to go by there this week. I didn't know about the tension - I'm a novice (does it show??) |
Hi Tammy,
For advice on clippers, spare parts etc --when I called this company they seemed very knowledgable http://www.petclippersrus.com/ Hope this helps |
Thanks, Zahra!
I did get the part I needed. I've had an issue with my #4 blade though. It just doesn't cut. Pam said she'd look at it the next time she comes over. I've given hair cuts to my brother's English Springer Spaniel and my sister's Shi Tzu and three OES - and it didn't work on any of them. So, I'm stumped. |
Hi Tammy! Just a quick story for you... I had a boyfriend in college that cut his own hair with clippers. However, one day he was cutting his hair and at the end he decided it needed a new blade. So he went to the store and "replaced the new blade". Not paying attention to the small parts of the razor he put it back together with an extra piece or two left over. His thinking was that hey, things improve over time!! Thinking the new blade must not need those pieces he proceeded to cut his hair....Well, he ended up with a reverse mohock!!!!! I never laughed so hard in my life. Hope you can picture it and laugh also!!!!!
Good Luck! alison |
Hi
4 blade--There is probably nothing wrong with your 4 blade, if the hair you are clipping is NOT brushed out or out far enough from the body without mats, it will not clip, will bind up etc. If the dog is not clean the 4 blade will not go through it. You need a 5-7-or 8 1/2 to do this. Us an old tooth brush to brush out the hair in the blades. The hair sits in there, you cannot see it. Slide the blade apart, NOT all the way,,,,just half way, flip out the hair with a tooth brush from between the teeth, slide back the other way and flip out the hair. If you are oiling your blade DO NOT oil the teeth themselves unless you are going to store them for months, then go ahead and oil it, wrap it in brown paper (bag). 4 blades are not a blade of choice unless your a groomer. Okay, this is a detour from your thread but it is a funny clipper story..
Brian bought me a clipper, cooling spray and misc stuff for the whole grooming gig....I shaved Panda a few times but didnt have an appropriate spot to put the stuff away when done....so it was piled on top of his workbench in the garage...well, the next time I went to shave panda, i grabbed everything and proceeded to groom her....I pulled the top off of the cooling spray and liberally sprayed the blade and clipper...well, after my hand turned black did i only realize that I had grabbed the can of black spray paint that brian used to spray the address on the curb...the cooling spray was still on the work bench...it took the guy who sharpens my blades 2 days to get the gunked up paint out/off of the clippers....so, see losing only one part isnt that big of a deal |
Oh Darcy, I am so sorry!! I bet everyone has done something like that!
Still, Sorry...LOL!! |
That is pretty funny, Allison!!
My brother told my nephew if he didn't get his grades up he was gonna let Aunt Tammy cut his hair. Somehow, I don't think that was a compliment to my grooming skills. Darcy - THANKS! You're right - it could've been much worse! I haven't done that - yet... Thanks for the info Barbara! That's pretty much what Pam told me, too. It wasn't the blade, it was "operator difficulties". I'd just like to see what it is supposed to do. |
