Wahl trimmer question

I bought a wahl trimmer as Im in experienced and didnt want to spend a fortune on something that my dog would freak on. Charlie is a little fussy with his fur especially his feet, he also has an attention span of a goldfish, so, it really could have been a waste.

However, I find myself in a quandry, until recently I only did his head, that always seemed to go ok, but his body had to be done with scissors.. Due to his lack of patience and his amazing habbit of having a very thick fluffy undercoat.

This time round Im trying the trimmers all over, but its quicker with scissors I swear, Im finding Im all but teasing the fur off like you would a sticky label from a bottle, teeny bit by teeny bit.. Please tell me this isnt normal!!

I want a fairly short trim all over so I only really do him spring and fall

If clippers are working properly, you should be able to run them down the coat and remove a long strip of fur right down to the skin fron neck to tail in a handful of seconds.

Make sure you're holding the clippers in the proper manner (check the owner's manual) and ensure that the blade appears to be moving properly.

That said, I had an inexpensive pair of clippers and they didn't work worth a darn.

Also, if your dog is badly matted it might be a question as to which blade you're using, but I have no experience with a BADLY matted dog.

Good luck!
Im guessing my clippers are not worth the space in the world they occupy.

Charlie isnt hugely knotted, he has a few like in his arm pits, but if anything this takes not really knotted fur and turns it into knots more than cuts it, if anything it brushes it.. (and just to prove Im not entirely losing it, it is moving well, oiled and Ive successfully cut me on them, just not fur it seems)

Well, thank you for confirming it was what I feared.. You describe exactly what I was hoping for, not 30 minutes to clear a patch...

Sigh.. Maybe I will check ebay again, any recommendations on suitable clippers for just a general all over short cut and which blade would be suitable?

Thank you Ron.
