So read it and be aware this is a nasty one going around the world at the moment and in the next few days. BEWARE AND BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THIS VIRUS PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS You should be alert during the next days Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation" regardless of who sent It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a friend,do not open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. |

This, as most of these types of warnings are, is a hoax.
http://urbanlegends.about.com/b/a/243068.htm Anytime you get one of these "warnings" you should first check by searching google with the name of the so-called virus and the word hoax. Or, you can go to symantec.com and search their database of hoaxes. People forwarding these things to everyone in their address book is more of a problem than an actual virus would be if it actually were one. |
Thanks stacey did not realise that it was a hoax, will post this link on the other list that has posted this warning |
Here is another place to check:
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/ Just type in the keyword, in this case invitation. Very informative virus encyclopedia. Shellie |
my favorite is the one that says "there is a virus on your computer that calls itself [insert important system backup file here] delete it before it attacks your computer."
good stuff. it's like telling people to hit alt+f4 to refresh their window in IE. |
