At first we thought it was cute but now it worries me. I am concerned at how much attention she gives this. Has anyone had this problem? and what can we do? [/b] |

MO isn't that bad!!! She chases shadows outside......hasn't caught a bird or herself yet!
If this is something new, could she have eye problems? Perhaps she feels vulnerable. Otherwise you'll have to desensitize her, much as you do with dogs and mirrors; taking them up to the wall, touching, talking, etc. Or you'll have to adjust the lighting in the house, more diffuse lighting, less sharp. |
If you think it might be an obsessive/compulsive disorder, seek a vet's help. They might be able to provide medication while you desensitize her before it becomes a behavior that's too well rooted. |
Is it possible that Willow is bored? OES's are often good in the home and don't act bored yet they still need as much exersise and any large breed does? Just a thought... Good luck! |
Panda chases her shadows on walks...either that or trys to hide from it..we have never had a problem inside though...try the desensitizing..take her up to the shadows and see if you get not to be afraid or spazzy over it! |
I have a border collie called Willow and she is obsessed with shadows as well! Maybe it is the name???? It is completely annoying, I agree. Some people think it is because she is smart - however I am thinking it perhaps because of the opposite! |
billy chases shadows and reflections while running and crying around the house, also outside, and he also tries to catch all the raindrops, with rain he cries and snow... well thats just like all of the above put together, jumping up high when on a walk to catch them and i get no sense out of him on the field, where his normally very good. oh and he chases dust which he whips up on his new found game of skidding an art for which he is perfecting. but the most anoying is the shadows and reflections because they are more regular
i think i took on a bit of a mental case, but we distract him by playing him or doing something else, his better than he was, we havent had him a year yet. |
That sounds like great entertainment. Chasing rain and snow. They could be days that you could take the short walk, sit back and watch him exhaust himself all by himself while you get a few laughs in watching...from the window of course. LOL |
exhaust himself ?????? still waiting for that day! he is either really calm and loving or a complete nutter but still loving! but the short walks are a refreshing change especially when his playing up. his not as bad as he was just dreading the snow again. its my other dog that i feel for. his a staffy x aged 5 but was disabled last year when he slipped a disk in his shoulder area, after having spinal surgery he was paralised for 3 months then started to get better, before we got billy he was stuck in a rut, we had just lost his best friend montie and he was just depressed and started to regress, thats what spured us on to get another dog. billy was great for him, he was like brunos phyiso always getting out of his bed by driving him crazy and playing tug of war weather bruno like it or not, now he has a new best friend that plays with him all the time even when he dousnt want to, billy will just stand on brunos bed with a toy and shove it in his face till he grabs it, poor bugger. but we all get picked on with billy and his toys. |
