Hee hee! Try the gentle leader it's great!. We plan to start Foz off with it for training once he gets used to an actual collar around his neck for his tags. |
Ha, Ha, Ha....Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Must be a sheepie thing.
Bosley went to puppy socials and was the same. Loved to love everybody. He was so full of himself that they put him with the bigger, older pups, even when he was only 10 weeks old. He would tackle the labs, flatten them and then look at me as if to say, "Now that I caught him, what do I do with him?" We had to work extra hard on the recall, and only fish would work to distract him Don't worry, it will get better. Practice, practice and practice. |
Ha Ha Ha I just loooove naughty babies
Gentle leader will help with the towing My 3 year old would go off with anyone and anything that pays attention to her, she thinks everyone and everything is just wonderful, the other is a real mommies girl and stays by my side all the time, just so different in personalities. One bubbly, one more refined |
I'm curious, during your puppy class do they devote some time to let the puppies all play together off leash? It's pretty important for socialization and I know a lot of puppy classes that do that. |
This week they did not, but next week the off leash play will start. Abby is 6mons and 50lbs. I better eat my wheatties that day. This could be the kinda thing you send in to funniest home movie contest and win. |
The puppy socials allow play time, so the pups learn to play nice, and they also teach good recalls, away from playtime.
What the intent is to have the pups get used to other dogs, so that they are not rude and pull, and cry and carry on whenever they see them. And also to wait for a "go play" by the handler BEFORE they go say hello. It is a combination of learning how to play and read doggie body language, and how to control themselves when they are so excited. AND to listen to their handler when it is time to stop. THAT is the hard part, but I think it worked, because Bosley has excellant recall at the dog parks. He comes running whenever we call him to us, and we do it several times and give him a cookie, or water etc. |
Don't give up! If you do you'll have Jack........he's 110 lbs and doesn't know the difference between play and fight. He is not welcome around other dogs.......no dog park visits or having others stop by for visits. |
Hang in there. I am sure you will figure this out with everyone's help.
I just get a kick out of those bad sheepie antics. It made me smile even though I am no help to you. |
I'm going through the exact same problem with Charlie right now. Last night was his fourth puppy class. He's almost 5 months old and 50 lbs of pure pulling power! The first day at class, the dogs were allowed to meet and "play" and he was the star of the show doing really good with what he already learned at home. (There are 15 pups in this class) Since then, he's gotten progressively worse at pulling to get to the other pups to play. Last night at class, he pulled the whole time and wouldn't even do his basic commands like "sit" and "down" which he does 100% at home. They haven't allowed "playtime" since the first class. Is this something they should do every week? I'm hoping his pulling will get better. I like the sound of the gentle leader, I'll give it a try! Any other advice would sure help???
Cheers, Rick |
