Sofie is now at my house -- she just arrived this evening. Pictures are up on Petfinder. It turns out she weighs 88#. She is shaved so you can see how fat she is. Her diet began this evening.
We will be working on manners too or else if i find a home for her she will be returned for sure! She doesn't come when called (yes, she is deaf but that is no excuse. When she is looking right at you and you gesture for her to to come and you know she knows that sign and she just ignores you....) Plus, I don't mind when they sit on the sofa but climbing on the tables isn't allowed here.. She now smells like a french fry -- when I sprayed her with vinegar water to get her to stop going over the top of the sofa onto the sofa table and end table. She seems to be very smart and a quick learner. Yikes! She just climbed up on my husband's lap! Where is the camera when you need it? Sofie needs a new forever home... applications for her are welcome at anytime. Marie in Ocala, FL |
Marie do you need a foster home, or are you going to foster? |
I wil foster her here (at least for now) I have 2 applicants in this area that would like to meet her. Please don't let that stop anyone from applying for her -- they may not work out....
She is currently laying on the sofa on top of my husband (and he doesn't mind) so he isn't pushing me to get her adopted or in a foster care else where. We are working on "better in the house manners" and learning more about her personality so we can find her the perfect home. Lisa, are you ready of another foster dog? Marie in Ocala, FL |
I'm always ready to help. Just let me know. |
Oh my gosh, I know this dog and her "brother" Vinnie pretty well. Sofie and Vinnie used to play at the dog park with Spike here in LA until about 6 months ago or so when their mom took them toFlorida after a divorce. I'm very sad to see that they've been given up because it seemed like they were given lots of love and attention Sofie is a total sweetheart and Spike absolutely loved playing with her. Vinnie was protective of Sofie and I'm very surprised they're not going to the same home. I hope they each find wonderful families and thank you SheepieMum for fostering Sofie, that's very kindhearted of you. |
Yes, this is the same Sofie and Vinny. It's a small small world.
In the world of OES rescue it is not easy to place a deaf dog, (even one as cute as Sofie) I believe it makes it atleast 4 times more difficult if I were to insist on placing her with Vinny ( he is a 6 year old Border Collie Lab mix that isn't always nice to other dogs) So we are trying to place them as individuals. (but also letting all applicants know about the opportunity to also adopt Vinny). In the case of Mopsy and Prissy -- we do not want to separate these dogs as they have separation anxiety issues when separated from each other and have been together almost 10 years. Sofie and Vinny were only together less than a year and I believe each can thrive in new homes. Sofie is doing fine here so far she has been here in the first 24 hours. And already had one family come meet her... Marie Ocala, FL |
I took new pictures of Sofie. They can be seen on her Petfinder link above.
She is a good loving girl. And now sporting a pretty pink ponytail.. I need to take more pictures of her "Pebbles" look. She is smart as can be and learns new handsignals every day... Please consider this deaf young puppy-like (she is already housebroken) girl... Marie in Ocala, FL |
It's been a month since I last posted Sofie -- she is still in foster care at my house....
Her manners are better, shes pretty good in the car now, she is very bright and eager to learn. A very loving girl...a real cuddle bug! Deaf dogs are not that different from hearing dogs -- they sleep more soundly and you can't call them unless they are looking at you.... You just talk to them like you would talk to a hearing dog and use your hands... Sofie still needs a forever home.... Marie |
Looks like she has been adopted. |
I just wanted you to know that Sofie was adoptedyesterday and all is well today! It was love at first sight. She has a new mom and a dad and 2 Sheepie sisters (no human children). They are named Hannah and Tess. One is 5 and the other is 7 and both are rescued OES. This family had 2 OES girls previously -- one lived to 15 1/2 and the other lived to 12. The sheepie girls came to visit and all dogs got along very well. They have a fenced yard and the girls will have the run of the house both day and night. The new mom signed up on the yahoo deaf dogs group and bought books on living with a deaf dog and was impressed when she "called" Sofie that she came running. Sofie then demonstrated both "sit" and "down" perfectly. Each of the girls has a color theme -- Sofie is the pink one. She now has a new pink leash and a new pink collar. I gave her a bath Friday and gave her a pink bandana and a pink ponytail holder. She looks like a fluffy Princess -- her coat is coming in nicely! They bought new dog bowls for all three girls so they will all be matching. I believe she's in very good hands and she is close by so I will be able to keep in touch!
Thought you all would like to hear the good news. Marie P.S. Lass than an hour after they left -- Gretchen arrived. M husband said, " I thought you were cutting down on the number of dogs.here..." |
Yay for Sofie! Congrats and thank you, Marie! |
