ROODLES Yep Poodles crossed with rottweilers. It was headed up Roodles Make Oodles!! Yes charging over $1500 plus for this breed, someone in Hawaii just paid $2150 for one. Suppose to be stocky like a rotti and fluffy like a poodle. Well I wonder what the temperment is going to be on this new fad of breed. |

I think that's great! I don't think there's a reason they should be cheaper esp. if there's a demand or because there aren't many bred. ...and by aren't many bred ......I mean... actual good breeders. Just as I feel about Goldendoodles, etc. That mix has ALWAYS been around, but there haven't been folks who knew what they were doing. Plus, I think it's great that generally mixes are healthier dogs! |
Wild. Via google, found some pics:

When the poodle's and rott's (or whatever) of yesteryear, met on the corner, bred and had puppies, they were called "mutts." They were advertised for "free". Ads would read "Free Puppies, 1/2 this and 1/2 that." It amazes me how someone would be willing to spend $1500 on a dog of mixed breeding when all they have to do is watch the ads for a free one.
These are (were) the breedings that humane societies and rescues want (ed) to prevent. Now they have a price tag as high or higher than the so called "full blooded" dog. Someone needs to explain the logic to me??? |
They're adorable! http://www.valleyviewdogs.com/images/ro ... oodle4.jpg |

Some of them I understand, but others are not so easy to understand for me. I suppose, Guest, that if the breeder takes care to ensure that all health issues of each breed are carefully screen for, then you'd be getting your money's worth. The accidental union of a couple of strays doesn't come with a breeder's reputation. That's why BYBs get so much less too. Just my guess, Guest. |
Lol. I think the bigger question is, why do they all look a little like Josh's Pooh Bear?
When I was talking to the rescue lady last night she was talking about a litter that they took in that were half OES, half Lab. She called them Shlabs, which made me laugh. |

They do don't they, OK Josh you have some explaining to do LOL |
I think they're pretty cute. |
Hey, who are we to judge............some people pay $100,000 for a CAR
If you have the money, it brings you joy and you LOVE THE ANIMAL....... |
Just had this conversation with my Mom today after seeing a Paltese at Petsmart. I think that if people are coming out with new dog breeds they need to come up with more original names for them. Isn't that how all the dogs breeds came out that are here currently??? The combining of dog names is really starting to urk me. These are just glamorous mutts. People should just go to the shelters. |
Isn't combining a Rottweiler & a Poodle an oxy-moron? Tough dog with frou frou dog?
And although it's not the #1 breed in the country, funny how the Poodle is the chosen dog to be combined with everything recently. Maybe we can start a new designer breed with a sheepdog and a Pit and call it a Sh#*. |

People I've met with poodle-mixes tell me they are hoping to get the hypoallergenic qualities of the poodle mixed with a breed they prefer. They don't know whether a particular offspring will be hypoallergenic though. It is not guaranteed. |

Maybe we can start a new designer breed with a sheepdog and a Pit and call it a Sh#*. Poodles have a lot to offer, they are reportedly the smartest dog there is, they are a non shedding breed, and seem very versatile for activities and sports. A lot of people don't like poodles though, so I suppose this is a way to hopefully get some of the poodles better qualities and yet have a dog who people also like to look at. I don't agree with just letting a couple of dogs breed for the heck of it because as someone pointed out, there are millions of mutts who need homes, and many never get one. |

Love the humor , but you opened the door for another question I hadn't posted yet. I was trying to think of a name to use as an example, so, thank you! Ok, we already have "banned" breeds. The pit being one of them. So? If one were to do what was suggested, or a combo of any other breed with a pit (or banned breed), does that make them 1/2 banned or completely banned??? Or,.....acceptable if they look like the "not-banned" breed??? But, if a designer breed is recognized by AKC and other registries, what would they be registered as? A half and half or a whole of something? How would/do they figure out the breed standards? So, on that note, what two breeds produced an OES??? |
Actually, here in Ontario I *think* the ban includes pit crosses and anything that has a head that looks pitbull. I can't remember the details though.
In regards to what breeds created the OES, it was more than two. There is some controversy over which breeds it was though. |
I think they are quite cute!!!
There's a lot to be said for cross-breeds, less health problems and you can get some right weird combinations, strange that it's becoming rather glamourised... It's weird how most glamourised cross-breeds are half poodle though. A lot of them kinda look the same... |
We have some here in the Charlotte paper that are half OES half lab but she is not calling them shlabs. of course she is also not charging 1200 dollars for them either--apparently she hasn't read the manual on marketing designer dogs. |
