We did put Gold Bond powder on him for the last two days, and it seems to help some, but he is still constantly licking and his paws. There even seems to be a pinkish color on his fur and the pads look inflamed. I don't know if they shaved over the pads of his paws instead of clipping the fur or what! Any suggestions on what else I can do? I want to help him so badly, but I'm not sure what to do for him. It's breaking my heart. |

Poor lil man, the pinkish colour to the fur is caused by saliva staining the area that he is constantly licking. It sounds like more then just Razor burn now, I am suspecting an allergic reaction maybe to what he has been shampooed in or something like that. Just for the fact that he is going at his paws all the time.
For the areas that have the razor burn Aloe Vera Gel is soothing & healing to apply to those areas and very safe too if the dog licks that area after applying the gel. Takes away the annoying and irritating feeling of the razor burn. Someone else can hopefully jump in here and help you if it is an allergic reaction and what to do for that to help him get over it and return brady to his happy sheepie self. |
I feel bad for Brady Hope he gets some relief. |
Give him a bath.
Perhaps the groomer used something that is irritating. We JUST did the same with Mulligan Wednesday, and he's itching a LOT less. |
Thank you all for your replies. I tried the aloe vera and he seemed to like it. I am also going to give him a bath.
Thanks again! |
If you are going to bath him try and use a oatmeal based shampoo it is very soothing for iritated skin. Best wishes and keep us all posted on how
brady is doing . |
Poor baby!! I used two things that I get from the vet, Tasker has very itchy skin irritated by many things. For shampoo I use Aloe & Oatmeal Shampoo by VET Solutions and then I use a 1% Hydrocortisone Antipruritic Anti-inflammatory Leave-On Lotion called ResiCORT by Virbac.
Hope he feels better. |
roofus always walks funny and sits down a lot after a shave, i think because you're shaving some rather sensitive areas and when they are that short they are pretty prickly. |
Animax ointment.... we use it at the clinic all the time for razor burn from clippers or at the equine practice for when the horses have had surgery and get some rug burn from getting up after anesthesia.... works great but Im sure the above mentioned aloe vera gel would be fine too..just be careful that he doesnt eat it too much |
