Barney is fairly new to the world of the kong and it gets all gross and covered in sheepie hair from rolling on the floor, which is hard to take off (I think sheepie drool is like super glue)... What do you all do? |
|
I put my two in the dishwasher. |
Same here. |
Okay.
I've been starting to feed Barney half his breakfast in the kong and he LOVES it. I'm at my wit's end trying to stop his meal madness and this seems to be helping, at least for now. It is amazing how fast he can get the cream cheese out of that thing! |
me too re dishwasher. try freezing it to make it last longer. |
Yup, dishwasher!! |
Dishwasher, totally. Steph, what are you putting in the Kong? I'm not very creative, I just rehydrate some of Bailey's dry food then freeze it. I think Bailey deserves better treats |
I'm not putting anything exciting in there. I start off with a steak treat (they are little treats in the shape of a T-bone steak) and then I fill most of the rest with kibble and then I top it off with some cream cheese or cottage cheese. I haven't tried freezing it yet.
Sometimes I break up milkbones and put them in there, and they are sometimes hard to get out if the angle isn't right, so he works hard for them... |
My dogs get Kongs twice a day. When I leave for work in the AM and when I leave after lunch. In the AM, I put about 1/4 of their breakfast kibble and top off with canned cheez wiz. After lunch (since I don't want to give them more kibble) I peel and slice a apple and stuff it in the Kongs, then I top it off with low fat peanut butter. (YUM). They love their Kongs!!! I wash them with dishsoap and water (to get off the telltale fur) and then the dishwasher. Pirate never gets all his peanut butter out, so as soon as she can, Keira swipes his and finishes it off! |

Chummie is not so good at the kong either so Maggie always dives for chum's leftovers to see what she might find. Maggie actually will run to the top of the stairs and let it bounce down so she can get what bounces out. Cracks me up. I've been mixing kibble/biscuits with yogurt, pumpkin and sometimes canned veggies then freezing it. |
I don't have a dishwasher, but I just wash it off in the sink (using the sprayer) with detergent & water. About once every couple of weeks, I do a clorox/water mixture and let it sit a couple of hours - I just throw it in the bucket when I clean the boys' toys. |
We tend to let it soak for a few hours before trying to get all that peanut butter stuff out. |

Don't you love it? If there is something stuck, Bailey will drop it over and over or toss it at the wall. "Leave no treat uneaten", that's his motto! |
That's what Barney does too. I think that's why, even on days that I don't put food in there, he'll carry it around and drop it again and again. |

I think its sorta plastic cheese as opposed to dairy cheese. They haven't had a problem with it. In fact, I often give them pieces of american cheese (not too much) and they love it! |
Actually, Barney eats quite a bit of dairy...well, not a ton, but definitely at each meal. Maybe big doses of dairy would do something, but a couple of squirts of cheezwiz shouldn't hurt anything (and you're right...IS that dairy!) |
