Rags' ears from her hair being pulled by the matting stick up from being kept in that position for so long. My SIL said if I tape the bottom of her ears to the side of her face her ears will be flat again soon. Billy likes Rags' dopey looking ears. So here's the poll.... |

Won't they start to relax over time anyway? Or when her fur grows back, that should pick up a little of the slack too I would think. Who cares about ears? She's happy, you all love her, that's all that matters. Besides, with them sticking up, it's less chance of ear infections since more air gets in there! |
Can we tape your SIL's ears down? |
Is this that same crazy SIL who didn't understand why you got Rags? If it is, I think you should take her mouth shut! Oh, I'm mean today! Leave her ears as is..she's so cute! |
Sky's ears have never been matted and she has big dopey ears that are not as flat to her head as they should be..... It would work if you taped them down, but they would have to remain taped for about 4 months. With my great dane many years ago, her ears were cropped and I had to keep them taped til she was 4 months old. Taped usually a few days, then one day no tape for air and healing time etc... It really was not a pleasant experience. I wouldn't want to do it again. |

Maybe her mouth???????????????????????????????? |
Just to add a little flavor - my grandpa's ears stuck out when he was a baby, so they taped them to his head. Today he 'carry's' his ears to the side of his head and you would never know! Not fair to his grandchildren who inherited his trait!! |

I think they will relax a bit once she has some more hair. I do like her being unique Ron wrote: Can we tape your SIL's ears down? I think we should crop them....just like she does to her dogs. My son has ears that stick out... got it from my Mom's side of the family.... my Aunt had her ears tapped back as a kid.... No way Ryan would ever let me do that to him. It adds to his personality. |
I like Rag's ears...and when her hair comes in a bit more...she will look adorable......I love that pick of her with her pippy hair cut.....leave those ears...it makes her unique! |
Rags is great the way she is and Billy adores her. No reason to mess with a good situation! |
Sheltie pups get their ear tips glued down from a few weeks old until 4 months or so. It is too late to do anything with them once they are over 6 months old, because the cartilage is already set by then.
I imagine it would be the same with Rag's ears. A lot of trouble for probably something that would not happen. She is adorable just like she is. |
Rags is so cute. She has her own individual look and is beautiful just the way she is. I definitely wouldn't put her through anything that takes a few months, especially after what she's been through already.
Now I know why you don't like that SIL. I say ........... to her opinions. |
Leave them be, you have not seen Kelseys ears without fur, we call them butterfly ears. The weight of the hair on them keeps them flater but when she hears something out they fly sideways LOL
Makes her head look wider and has not been picked up ever by any judge in the showring as being incorrect ear setting & that is for 7 years in the showring & they are incorrect as far as comformation goes . Soooo don't worry about rags ears, I think they look cute & they match my Kel's ears. Grow a bit of hair on them and they will flatten down a bit, AND your SIL well............... Don't tape them it is not a pleasant experience to put her through that just for the sake of your SIL's views on sheepies, we know that not every dog is perfect but we love all the differences in each and everyone of them & that's what makes each of them special and unique |
I like Rag's perky ears!
That is just her "look" which is just adorable! |
Jack has a goofy ear, it's what makes him Jack. It's often inside out so I flop it over and give him a nuzzle. He loves it! Maybe he's knocking it out of whack on purpose. Unless the dog is a show dog..........who cares? Maybe he hears better with it cocked out a bit....
I am grateful his ear canal is large enough to drive a truck through as is Harry's.......no smelly infected ears on those boys. If this is what is causing funny ears.........then hooray for funny ears! People who criticize a dog's appearance lead shallow lives.....come on, it's not even HER dog. Your SIL should have her mouth taped and a good swift correction applied to her collar. |
Ellie has what we lovingly call "Lab ears". They are perky and expressive. I'm sure Rags hasn't gotten any jeers from the other Sheepies.
I think the SIL is a little jelous of Rags perkiness. |
