Sounds like fun! I've been reading some books in prep for our own pup this weekend. The book suggested playing some of the following:
1. Hide some nibbles in a cloth rag and wrap it up loosely. Pup will play with the rag trying to get out the goodies. 2. Show him where you are hiding a treat and have him try to find it. May need to help him out. 3. Show him a cardboard box to play with. |
No suggestions, but will we get our daily Pippin picture??????? |
Jasper likes to play tug with rope toys, fetch, chase the boys around the house, and give us hi-5s. His favorite thing to do with us though is to lay on his back and get belly rubs - lol Must be nice being a spoiled dog. |
ahem- sorry, I was remiss yesterday, and my camera ran out of batteries, or I'd share the pippin shower picture but here you go:
Pippin picture of the day: snow is cold, but it is also Pippin's favorite thing in the world!!! (besides mom's ponytail!) |
I am so happy for you.
The best game I could think of that worked that brain is using the kong to dispense small kibble treats. Very good mental exercise and I've taught both dogs to "pick which hand" I put a treat in one of my hands, mix them around and tell them to guess which one it is. Both have learned through some time and practice to point with their nose to which hand they think it's in. If they pick the wrong hand... we start all over. Both concentrate SUPER HARD on this game too. Maybe I should videotape them doing this, haha |
i like going in the backyard with walter and taking a bunch of small milkbones, showing them to him, and then throwing them in the grass. he runs around like a madman looking for them and he looks so accomplished when he finds them |
We still give Izzie all the empty card board boxes we have. Soda cartons, cereal boxes etc... They only entertain her for a few minutes, but when I hand them to her she carries them off so proudly.
She loves a kong with peanut butter or frozen yogurt (plain yogurt frozen into the kong). I usually mix some pieces of her food into the peanut butter and in the case of the yogurt I use pieces of her food to block the hole at the small end. Amanda |
So Karen, I must have missed something....Didi pippin come home????????????? Where was I?????????????? LOVE THE AVATAR!!!!!!!!! |
Sorry Ginny! Pippin did come home on Sunday- check out the Portentious Proclomation discussion in getting a puppy for more info! He's my little doll!!!! |
WOW! Y'all are really tame. Or I'm nuts. I do all the normal games with Louie. Fetch, cardboard boxes, hide-a-treat, etc... But we also have games we've made up. Mostly involving running around like idiots until we're exhausted. The way my place is set up the living room feeds into the kitchen which feeds into the entry way which feeds back to the living room. So we run in circles around this back and forth can-you-catch-me. Then we used to have these chairs that swivled around. That was a fun game. But I shouldn't say more-it'll just make me look even more weird... |
Our main hall is next to the kitchen, with two doorways from the kitchen opening into the hall.
I will stand in one doorway and bark, then run to the other doorway (on the kitchen-side) - only to be met by a barking Bailey. We both run to the other doorway, bark and run back. Sometimes Bailey cheats and tries to run into the kitchen. I just yell "Cheater! Cheater!" and she goes back to the hall. Did I mention that she gives me a sheepie bouce when she stops at each doorway? She loves this game. |

Lol. That's the same reason I didn't pipe up. We play a game that we started calling "Smash." In involves crawling around the house on all fours so I'm even with Clyde and we take turns smashing each other over. On warm days it continues all the way through the dog door. Then there's the welcome home game, which goes against everything you should teach a puppy. I go to the back door to let Lucy out and Clyde follows, all super excited. I encourage it and tell him "Go see Daddy" and he runs to James all hyped up, then James sends him back to me. We play Clyde-pong for a few minutes then Clyde and I race up the stairs and jump on the bed and he watches me change. That part sounds a little weird... |
We played hide and seek with all of ours. One would distract them while the other one hid. Then we'd tell them to go get mom or dad. We'd hide behind curtains, in the shower, in closets and behind furniture. Three of them would always raise their heads and sniff the air before they took off, the others just followed their lead. It was total madness trying to get up off the floor with seven dogs standing over you. What made it even more fun was trying to "outsmart" the three that tried to get a whiff of your scent before they took off. They thought they were sooooooo smart. So we'd run one way, then another to try to throw them off, but they were good. It was cute watching those noses go up and then turning your direction and heading right for ya. BUT, when they were wrong, it was a blast watching them try to recalculate. Sometimes I'd give myself away by laughing. |
Taskers favorite game is chase Ty |
Congratulations on Pippin's arrival! Your POTD is a great idea, keep it up. I had a picture of the month with lennon in the same spot and position for a year and we could really watch him grow.
Try getting your hands on a halloween plastic pumpking, put a treat inside and watch Pippin go crazy trying to catch it. |
We play hide and seek and hide the baby...her favorite toy....keep her in a sit stay...hide the baby in the other room and let her go find it....My favorite game is....Get Daddy......self explanitory |
