Stella and the Giant green apple

OK so I have no idea how she got it, but I woke from a nap to find stella half way through a big green apple. I can imagine that it's going to cause loose stool and maybe an upset stomach, but other than that, I think she will be fine. Am I wrong?

Hi,

The apple is fine but apple seeds are toxic. Don't want to scare you as the amount would have been small. When I give my bunny apples or in the rare case, Blue who loves them - I always remove the seeds.

In your case it was accidental but if she starts getting sick you may want to call the vet.

Good luck and best wishes

Ewwww Green apple splatters?
Sorry... seriously, I don't think it will hurt her, but I hope she doesn't get loose poops from it. I'd just keep an eye on things...
Is it just larger portions of apple that can be a problem? I know both Wellness and Merrick include it in their food and treats.
Hi Again,

Nope apples are great and a healthy treat (providing your dog is used to them) it's the seeds you have to worry about. No harm if they eat an apple and if they have a bout of diariahh it could just be they are not used to that food. Much like when you even introduce a new pet food.

It's the apple seeds which are toxic and should be removed. All my three have a carrot a day. Sometimes I give them celery but remove those long silky fibres and cut them into 4 inch stalks.

Our dogs ancestors (the wolves) ate prey animals like rabbits whose diet was that of grains, seeds, veggies, grasses...ect..so in turn the wolves diet consisted of meats and veggies. It's kinda hard for us to remember that veggies and some fruits are okay as we forget that when we purchase ready made kibbles.

I wouldn't recommed all of a sudden people start rushing to change their dogs diets however as if you are considering it , it has to be done slowly and over time.

Admitedly I am a fan of providing much fresh veggies to my dogs diets as Blue is now the third dog I've had that has lived past the age of 15. Not to sway anyone either as everyone has different opinions.

Baxter and Cassiopia love it when I have an apple - since they demand their share. We haven't had any problems with loose stools. By the way - they also like broccoli and carrots. Each of them gets a fresh carrot every day.
I love this board. Thanks so much. She is just fine. Just new daddy worrying I guess.
Apples are one of Annie's favorite treats! Sometimes she doesn't like the peel though. Makes me wonder what kinds of pesticides they put on them that she won't eat it  Cracks me up every time watching her eat a piece. The only food she doesn't snarf down and actually puts to the side of her mouth to chew it up. :D
We feed ours apple slices and they love them, peel and all. They've never eaten the seeds or core, Good to know about the seeds being dangerous. I'm sure if they could grab the whole apple they would.
Daphne loves the apple peel, I don't like the peel so whenever I eat an apple, she gets the peel. I'd share with Merlin too, but he just spits them out. But yep, apples are fine, just not the core because of the seeds, but everyone already said that...
