Who wants to go to a dog show?

Toby and I will be at some shows in some different areas coming up and just thought we'd let everybody know. In case anybody had some time to kill.
March 24, 25, 26 we will be in Pittsburgh, PA at the David F. Lawrence Convention Center. The 24th is a sheepdog specialty and we show at 1100. We'll be there much earlier than that to get ready.

April 1 we'll be in Syracuse, NY at the New York state fairgrounds.

April 14-17 we'll be here at home for the Harrisburg Kennel Club dog shows. They tape the Saturday show for airing on Animal Planet. It's part of the Eukenuba Tournament of Champions. VerveUp and Frank should be at this one also.

So if anybody is bored and wants to come hang out, let me know!

Awww bit far for me to come and visit

Just want to wish toby and frank all the best for the shows :D
I am PLANNING on Syracuse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doug informed me that that is the day of the Speedsville Fire Dept Chicken Bar B Que, little does he know I WON'T BE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Syracuse was our second home for 4 years while Spencer was in school. Might be do-able. Have to check our calendar.

April 14-17 is Easter week-end, probably not very likely.
im a bit behind.. what kind of dog show is it in syracruse? I wanna go!
london
I wish I could go - too bad I'm so far south . . . :?
Mandy, you and Deb have to bring the boys to MI, we are a pleasant peninsula you know  And there's lots of cheerleaders here!
Or at least hit one of our bordering states. Heck, even Chicago would be good. Any further and we get lost.
Good Luck, hope you win!
Syracuse is only 4 hours from me.... but I know I can't go :(

Any show plans for late June, July or August?
Are you guys attending any shows in the Southeast?
Um, I thought it WAS Chicago we got lost in! :P

How come you aren't at the Detroit Dog Show TODAY?
Okay, some answers to questions.

It's an all breed dog show, just like the ones on tv. OES are just one breed showing,

I'm not sure about the summer months or shows futher south but I will let you know when we figure it out. I do know we will be in Williamsburg, Virginia the first weekend of October, that's the National.

And for the Michigan guys! I am trying to get out your way. I was told that the judge for this show wasn't spectacular and it would be better to stay home so home I am. I'm looking at some shows in Ohio. I think that they are in June. Not positive on that one yet but I'm working on it! Detroit is 8 hrs. Chicago is 11 so you'll probably see me in Michigan before Illinois!

What's so wrong with Pittsburgh anyway? Pile in the car and let's go!
You know I'l be in Harrisburg! I can't wait! :high5:
Hope to meet some more people from the group too.
My calendar has been cleared, and my sister is taking
my son for the day-yippy skippy!

Shellie
Hi Maxmm, all the very best for the shows. Hope you go home with some ribbons.

Lisa and I will be in Adelaide, showing, at the end of April, so....................................
.....................................................................I was only kidding.
Okay everyone, add Australia to our sheepdog tour schedule. California, Philadelphia, North Carolina. Australia should round it out nicely!
Can't wait to meet you at the Harrisburg show Shellie, and looking forward to hanging out with Mandy. As far as Frank & I traveling to Michigan... I'm trying to keep him within a 3 hour driving radius, because of him not liking the car--but he's getting better so you never know!! :D

Regarding Austraila - Frank's breeder has been invited to judge the Austrailian National Specialty in September/October. How is that for six degrees of separation?

Stacey, there are a couple of shows in PA in June that I will be in with Frank. I don't think there are 2 many shows in this area in July & August because of the heat factor. There is an OES specialty show in central NJ in the beginning of September that we will be in. I won't be going to the National in VA, at least not with Frank.
That's wonderful, now I know what kennel frank is from

Our National specialty only comes around every 3-4 years so it really is a very special event here for the breed in Australia & a real honour for a judge to be nominated to judge this event. Every state club holds a specialty each year so nationals are the big ones for the breed with dogs coming from all across Australia.

I am sure she will have a wonderful and welcoming time in perth later in the year. :D

I know she feels very honored to be asked and she's really excited about the trip. She certainly has a keen eye for the standard too so I think she'll do a great job judging. She has been a great mentor. She's very approachable so be sure to say hello!!

Yeahy, just don't wear boots, sunglasses, have big hair or chew gum, she'll love you!

I'm sure she'll find more to add on to that list at the Harrisburg show!! (and MY list too) 8O

Right now Delilah and I are about 'showed' out..........
She was as usual a fantastic traveler and i am so proud of this little girl!

Now to tell you of our little 'excursion' and where we have been!

The flight to Paris was uneventful except they lost part of our luggage.... Norm (yeah!!!) was standing at the gate waiting on us. This was so good to see his face again after 8 months and Delilah was excited to see 'Dad' too!

Avis kind of messed up and instead of a station wagon, we had a ford focus, lol. Anyone ever tried to put 1 x-large crate, 1 LG suitcase, a travel case, a grooming case and 1 carryon bag AS WELL as an OES into a Focus? We did it and wish i had taken a picture...... I wasn't very good about pictures this trip......

Going thru the Eurotunnel isn't hard at all folks. As long as your T's are crossed and your I's are dotted and you have all your paperwork it's a breeze. Only thing I could have done better was to remember about the time changes hour wise. We had to get a hotel room in Calais for 7 hours to 'wait' for the tick/tapeworm timeframe to be official!

Then, OFF thru the chunnel and 35 minutes later Delilah, Norm and I were in Folkstone England on our way to show at the most prestigous show in the world! CRUFTS!!

We stayed with our adopted 'dad' in Dulverton for 5 days and then headed up to our cottage in Wilmcote in the Cotswolds. It was part of Mary Alden's estate (Shakespear's mom). The gardens were gorgeous even if it was cold and wet! Delilah LOVED all of the flowers and went from bud to bud smelling them. The snowdrops and daffodils were all in bloom. I do have pictures of the garden as this is what we hope to do with our home here.

The next day was CRUFTS. There were a total of 22255 dogs entered this year at CRUFTS.......yes, you read that correctly! 22,255 dogs!
Old English Sheepdogs were shown on Thursday the 9th of March. There were 151 OES entered......56 dogs and 95 bitches.
Delilah was in the Open Bitch class and the entry alone for that class 27 and this class is made up of both Champions of record and non champions...

The final lineup was an outstanding compliment to our breed. It was a true "International" finale for this class almost all of the top 7 being from different countries....... I am proud to say Delilah made the final cut and placed 7th out of 27 entries....... Yes, I wish we had placed better but that's pretty amazing when you think of it......... and to top it off Delilah was the only American Dog owner handled this year! And only 1 of 2 American dogs entered, the other lives in the UK.

The OES BOB was Int. Ch. Reata's Cosmopolitan Bred by Davor and Andrea Javor of Croatia and owned by Nicholas Kanales of Greece. "Cosmo" is a very handsome dog and the placing was well deserved.

Other than the comments about the "American way" of grooming everyone had wonderful things to say about Delilah....... and we had let her grow a good inch longer than we normally keep her. I just have to smile and say but she is an American dog and that is how we present them in the USA and she has been growing out and is going to more shows...... at home. I couldn't wait to get her home and trim her up more........

Shows???? Not for at least a couple of more weeks. Delilah and I are both still recouperating from the trip, (Norm and I both caught pinkeye and bad colds, now i remember why i hated my pediatric rotation in nursing school!) and jet lag. Norm is back in Iraq and we are 'plotting' our next meet up...... There is at least one good thing about his job, I get to see more of the world to meet up with him! (a cruise to Fiji sounds great right about now!)

We are thinking about a couple of shows out this way and further west. It also doesn't look like the National will be in our schedule for this year. 1) East Coast 3 times in a row is a bit much for me and 2) hopefully we will be delivering her first litter about that time! Delilah will be retired the end of the summer.........

She's been a fantastic girl to travel with and show. AND we still have a Canadian Championship to complete and possibly one more International travel show to do......
"Welcome Home!" and "Yay Delilah!"
That's so exciting Ali! Great going for Delilah too. Glad she got to see her pop.

I can only imagine the chatter about how the OES are groomed here in the US. Although she probably didn't get the attention that an OES with a tail did at the US National did last year.

A couple of UK members posted about attending Crufts as spectators and posted some photos on the forum. You'll have to take a look when you get a chance.

Good luck breeding Delilah!
