what do you have and why? |

I don't have cable too expensive, use to have just the old dial-up internet and everytime you go on the net you are charged a normal telephone call, so when that phone bill came in was a doozie . Last October we changed to broadband, so just a set price per month on a plan, no telephone call charges and you get a modem that plugs into the computer and into the telephone line and you are on line everytime you turn the computer on.
It's great because if you go over your download limit they just slow the system and still on the set plan charge for that month, no unexpected extra amounts. (Boy the way I use the computer, for work at home, keeping in touch with friends overseas etc etc it works out well for me without being too expensive) |
We have both cable internet and TV. There is a very small discount for having both. We aren't able to get DSL as we are too from from the access point.
The down side of cable internet is that it can slow down when the neighbors are all on, not often, but it does happen. With the installation of the new fiber optic cable lines in, I haven't noticed any particular change in speed or service. Supposedly we are getting "more" for our money - faster speeds and more traffic allowed. I am very good at power cycling our modem, router and computer when service goes out. Shouldn't happen as I am in the telcom corridor. But when I call and complain, they often give me a credit or temporary rate reduction since we are such good customers. |
I have dialup because I'm in so many places that AOL was the only thing I could find that I could use everywhere. When I'm no longer a gypsy I'll use something faster. |
I have Verizon FiOS, 15Mbit service, $45 a month.
I used to have Charter Pipeline, 3Mbit service $50 a month. I have no pay television at all, just a TV with a wire hanging out of it as an antenna. |
I have Satillite (Direct TV) for $85.00 and Home Phone and High Spped Internet through BellSouth for $80.00. |
I have Cox Cable high speed internet for $49 a month. I had the guys from Geek Squad come in and install a wireless router, so now I have three PCs with high speed cable access and can offer the service to any of my friends with a wireless laptop that stay at my house. If you live in a house with multiple PCs I'd highly recommend the wireless router. My is password protected so the neighbors can't access it. |
We have Cox highspeed internet and cable too...ours is not wireless, but it is nice because now our phone, cable and computer are all on one bill! |
