It took one hour for the visiting troopers to file in and out of the church. Deana, MOM TO A NYS TROOPER Greece, NY -- About 4,000 people including friends, family, and police officers from around the country attended the funeral Monday morning for New York State Trooper Andrew "AJ" Sperr, a native of Greece. . The funeral began at 11:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church on North Greece Road and Mill Road. It ended at 2:15 p.m. All guests were asked to attend a lunchon at the Diplomat Pary House. Sperr, 33, was killed during a shootout with two bank robbery suspects outside Elmira last Wednesday. Speer was remembered today as a dedicated law enforcement officer whose courage kept two dangerous individuals from harming anyone else. Speer managed to wound the two suspects, who are in custody. New York State Police Superintendent Wayne Bennett says Sperr's "greatest act of courage and love" prevented the two men from endangering others. Two of Sperr's ten siblings also gave eulogies. |
