I took Sheba back to Knoxville Today

Things just never got any better between Barkley and Sheba. I got to watch her with the 8 month old puppy that Cynthia has today and she is totally different with him. Guess the chemistry just wasn't right. She played with the puppy and was so happy to see him. She was more lively today than I had ever seen her. She gave me a big wet sloppy kiss as I was leaving, I think maybe she was saying "thank you." Even though I know it was the right thing, it was still hard to leave her. Barkley doesn't even seem to notice she's gone.

How sad, Dee! :( But you gave it all you've got and tried to make it work. Like you said, the chemistry just wasn't right between Barkley and Sheba, and Barkley has to be your first priority. There will be another dog out there for you - don't give up! But thank you so much for fostering her! :clappurple:

I'm so sorry, but you gave it your all. Sounds like Sheba came around with you, but not Barkley for whatever reason. Now you can focus your attention to Barkley and all the funny things he does :D
Awwww.... that must have been hard... but you needed to make the best decision for all and it sounds like you did.
I'm sorry too Dee, but you did the right thing, if sheba and barkley just did not get on it only makes the sitaution over a period of time even worse. Barkley is such a sweetie and it would not of been good if because of sheba it altered his personality too. Hard thing to do, but remember you gave her the best you could for the time that she lived with you. Life is a learning process and I am sure when you look back, sheba taught you a lot that will benefit you in the years ahead. Best wishes to finding a special sheepie for a buddie for barkley. There is that special one waiting to find you & Barkley :D
Thank you, Dee! You did all you could!

:D

Mixed emotions.
Oh, that's too bad it didn't work out. But you did have to do what was best for you, Barkley and Sheba and that was it. For whatever reason they just didn't take to each other but maybe Sheba will find a better fit next time. I applaud you for trying so hard.
You took on an immense task, and did your best. You and Barkley both went through a lot with Sheba, and this has been a great learning experience, not only for you but for us, following this situation with you.
When we take in foster dogs part it is to assess them in different situations, and that is exactly what you did. Sheba has a history of behaviors that you were able to monitor, try different things with and pass on, so you have helped educate the people who will be mamaging her going forward.
It wasn't a good match from the get-go, you recognized that. lived through it for a couple months, and are now all the wiser.
Take your time and you will have another chance to add to your household if you so choose to. Now you know what you want and what you will avoid.
I hope you try again, and get as good a match as we have with Bosley and Dixie. It will happen.
Hi,

I'm sorry about the outcome as I really wanted it to work out. Through no fault of your own it didn't work out between her and Barkley. Like people some dogs have issues with one another and aren't compatable. You even had her spayed and that was probably the turning point for her...she'll leave behind many of her previous issues thanks to you. So thanks for all you did for Sheba and here's hoping you'll find the right match some day.

Thanks to everyone for being so supportive. I was completely convinced I did that right thing last night. Barkley was so much more relaxed, and happy. If a dog can be relieved, he was. He even slept completely through the night last night, which is something he hasn't done since I got Sheba.

It was a learning experience, and I hope that it helped to confirm for Sheba that people can be trusted.

Thanks everyone for all your input, advise, support--through this experience--it means a great deal to me!
Dee Honey I know how hard you tried to make this work.. Nicole, You are so right about this being a learning lesson for all of us that read about Sheba. Fostering is the hardest part of rescue... That is why I bring them all here with me.I have a Very Strong Alpha { Shug } and a Pack that is Awesome......Because of that Pack I can bring other dogs in to the house.......There is a Pack Order that is Very Important... THey learn very fst what their position is in the pack.... Some will challenge that.....That is where the Alpha comes in........ De, Remember what we talked about in May?? Sheepie Hugs, Kaye
You tried and gave her love...now hopefully she'll find love with someone else...
:) You did a very good thing with Sheba. You helped her with your observation, analysis and care and it is very likely that someone will adopt her for herself and there will be a happy ending. Hugs from Willoughby and me.
