Pet Containment Systems: Invisible Fence-Dog Watch

HI Everyone,
I have 2 sheepies and I am tired of putting them out on leashes. And I don't want to do the fence thing. I am looking into the invisible fence or dog watch system, has anyone tried it or even better do any of you own one. I would imagine that it is pretty expensive and I am concerned that I will pay all this money and they will run through it. I look forward to hearing from you.

It only works if they have the collar on and the battery is working.
It doesn't keep others (not wearing the correct collar) out. That is people and critters.
If your sheepies decide to chase the cat or dog on the other side of the invisable fence, they can easily take off. Once outside the "fence" the shock may keep them from coming back in.
Those things make me nervous. My neighbor has one and I've seen her rottie go through like nothing was there when he's after something or someone.
Some dogs do run right through it regardless of the zap and then often don't want to come back because of the zap.
We have invisible fencing that we installed ourselves. When we adopted Maggie she was already trained to it so it seemed like the right thing to do at the time. It was cheaper than conventional fencing but don't let that be your primary concern. We never leave our two OES unattended in the yard. Period. It's great when we're out in the yard working and can keep a close watch on them. Both dogs are very conscious of their boundaries but we still don't trust them 100%. As stated earlier, there's always a chance that a two or four-legged intruder could come into the yard and steal the dogs or cause them harm or possibly be harmed themselves.

My advice is forget the electronic fence, bite the bullet and go for a secure fence where you can feel confident your dog is safe. We are planning a new patio with decorative fencing around it that will provide an area large enough to exercise in and we can let them go in and out of the house freely. We will continue to use the invisible fence as it circles our entire property (1-1/2 acres) so the dogs can run freely under close supervision.
We have Canine Fence Brand Invisible Fence and love it. We can't have a physical fence in our historic town and that was our only containmant option. Training a puppy was much easier than training an older dog. I never leave them outside unattended. But other than that, OES breed does well with an invisible fences.

is it possible to keep toby in the yard without any kind of fencing?
oh, also, my brother in law decided to try his invisible fence out on himself and i gotta tell ya...it was hilarious. he ran toward the road and got zapped and it looked like he had been clothes-lined! so, i wouldnt recommend putting the collar on yourself...nor would my brother in law.

Depending on the invisible fence system you can monitor the range of shock that your pet is getting. Ours is set on the lowest setting and that was enough. I have tried the collar on myself and it was more of a startlement sensation than actual pain.
We have the invisible fence, and we put it in. I do think it is a great
option for those who can't or don't want to have real fences.
Just as with anything else though, you really have to train your dog
with the invisible fence. You MUST train the dog and then let them
test the limits with supervision. I think a lot of people figure they can
put the invisible fence in, put the collar on the dog and they are set.
Not so. You really do have to work with the dog so they know their
limits and what to do and not do. I think too that anyone interested in
using one should be willing to try it themselves and see what it feels
like. Ours has two variables, one is distance from the line and one is
intensity of the correction. I set mine at what I am willing to stand.
Other dogs can still come to your yard though. My dog went sailing
out through the glass storm door after a dog in our yard. He never left
his yard though!

Good luck

i love our dog watch fence.

it was easy to train our golden retriever.

he never left the yard.
I love our fence too. if only it kept the neighbors kids out when they think I am not at home :)
JUST GOT THE DOG WATCH SYSTEM. SO FAR SO GOOD. THE MAIN THING IS TO GO THROUGH THE TRAINING WITH YOUR INSTALLER AND
DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
I CAN RELAX A LITTLE MORE NOW. HE IS A COLLIE MIX AND HE LIKES TO RUN. HE IS HAPPIER. HE DOSN'T BARK LIKE HE DID WHEN HE WAS IN A SMALLER RUN. STILL WHEN HE IS OUT THERE I CHECK UP ON HIM ONCE IN A WHILE. IT ISN'T 100% FOOL PROOF.
We had one for our Lab& LOVED it! The city accidentally cut it in half at one point, ruining it. By that point, Shiloh ,not realizing that it was gone, only went to the boundaries for the rest of his life. Now, if I could talk my hubby into it again..................................
We do have a regular fence that works just fine for Maudie.
Shiloh would just look at it, then us & leap over it to play bowling for neighbor kids. Hence, the electric fence.
I've never been anything but thrilled to have the invisible fence. I previously had a large Terrier who was harder to train than Fetch (or perhaps I'm just more experienced at the training now). I started training Fetch at 16 weeks and in 3 weeks he was fully trained. The fence gives him 1 acre to play and run and makes him and me very happy!
I am in San Antonio and have dogwatch hidden fence. My dealer, Luke Simpson is an excellent source for information on dogwatch product. He is the best. He provides great service, and went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied and taking care of with my dogs. I am happy with the dogwatch hidden fence. . It's the best invisible fence product. Dogs hear a warning before feeling the zap.. Thomas Handover
