So my sister keeps freaking out anytime I look at squeaky toys at the pet store. she says they're waay to dangerous to buy, because if the dogs rips it apart, the could swallow the squeaker and choke, or get an obstruction. I'm not sure how realistic her fears are... so I'm going to the experts! how do you feel??? |

How about squeaky toys that are all plastic, so they won't rip and pose a small object hazard?
Our guy has some of these, and also a couple of plush toys (one that has a squeaker in it that doesn't work, a hand-me-down), but he's not a ripper/shredder. He's a chewer of chew toys, but not of squeaky toys, which he will occasionally squeak. He used to like to try to untie his ropes, but now knows they are only for pulling. I haven't seen him try to eat string in a while. My favorite is a black cat that is kept in his bed (ok, his side of our bed ) and he also has a largish all plastic bone-shaped toy with a Big Dogs head on either end. That's a good one. This dog is amazing. |
My dog isn't interested "as much" unless they squeak! Unless it's her rope or it's a ball. I just remove the toy when she tears in it. She's never come close to getting the squeaker inside. I just always examine her toys. It's obvious (for yuki) when she's trying to chew it up because she spends a lot of time on it. The problem I have is just spending money all the time on new toys.
I don't ever buy the rubber ones w/o out squeakers but squeak. They're pointless for Yuki. She tears it up within an hour. |
The latex squeaky toys last a lot longer than the vinyl and IMO they are a lot less dangerous. They are very hard to rip apart.
Both of my dogs love the squeakers.... they just love the noise it makes. My Aunt used to remove the squeakers because she was always nervous that her dog would eat them. |
Mine don't seem particularly interested in squeeky toys but Maggie adores her babble ball.

http://www.petqwerks.com/products.htm That look fun! Especially the ones with FART noises! Annie likes her soft toys with or without sqeakers, but she's older. She doesn't like the smell of any rubber or plastic toys. |
Jasper doesn't play with them... |
Ben has "babies" with squeekies in them. He is a lover , not a chewer or shredder. He just picks them up and carries them with him everywhere. I just bought him some latex squeek balls, he'll chase them but not very interested in playing with them on his own. (My old GS used to have the same balls and would have one in his mouth at all times there was never a quiet moment |
Ziva LOVES the squeaker toys, esp if it's a stuffie with a squeaker.
Remy prefers anything that gives her food. Or I play fetch with. |
Bailey adores squeaky toys. He's torn into a few enough to get some stuffing out of them but never gotten a squeaker out. But, I never leave him alone with them for long. When we go out we crate him and only leave him with very safe stuff. At night I put the toys and bones away, although if I miss one he seems to know not to squeak at night! So, I think as long as you buy well constructed toys and don't leave the puppy alone with them for too long, you'll be fine. |
Clyde loooves squeaky toys. I would suggest picking the ones that have a lower sound to them-- like a pig grunt or a duck quack. His favorite toy of all time is his Migrator pheasant, which quacks (I know, pheasants don't really quack, just don't tell Clyde). The high pitched ones will slowly drive you insane. Picture Jack Nicholson a la The Shining insane. |
None of mine are big on toys other than Luke. He's always had "baby" a gray teddy bear, but he's never torn one apart, he just picks it up and sucks on it when he's tired. |
Can't answer the poll. Mo loved them as a younger dog but after age 2 or 3 gave up on all toys except a ball and rope for "tug."
I can't give Jack any toy as it brings out his aggression. |
I forgot the squeaky part Luke sucks so gently that if it squeaks he gets startled and jumps up, looking around for the source |
Barney LOVES squeakies. He loves stuffy squeakies the best. Most of ours have the lower pitched noises in them...gorilla grunts, moose sorts of squeaks...He is pretty gentle with them, doesn't really rip at them. Most of the time we only hear the squeak if he accidentally steps on one. And I take away the injured stuffies to prepare them for surgery. Barney is not a huge fan of hard squeakies... |
Oh yeah, I almost forgot....
The Squeaky Deaky song!!! Check out the music links in this post: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?t=2844#24582 |
I buy them, I could care less if they squeak or not, and my dogs will play with them, but they don't squeeze them hard enough to make them squeak very often so I dont think they care if they sqeak or not either. |
Winston just loves a ball I bought at Petsmart that squeaks. He holds it in his mouth and squeaks and squeaks and squeaks it, I think you know what I mean. Endless squeaking. And he doesn't want to give the ball to you either. But when I manage to get it I throw it up high in the air and he catches it. We call that ball squeaky. I have bought about three more and he hides them in different rooms. He just loves his squeaky! |
The greatest squeaky toy, and outside of a regular soccer ball, the best to ever made is the Cuz. Specifically, the "bad Cuz". It's rubber, will bounce every which way when you throw it because of the feet, and the squeaker is built into the bottom so no chance it can be torn off/out and swallowed.
The medium size one became annoying in our house because our guy could fit it entirely into his mouth and just sqeak it until the cows came home. The large one is much better, but he can still really get the sqeaker going when he wants to. http://www.cleanrun.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=1423 |
Oh, the squeaky deaky song was great. Winston kept staring at the computer when I played it looking like how did my squeaky get in the computer?
Yea, Squeaky Deaky |
I sang/hummed that song for weeks after I played it a few times. Be careful! It will drive you nuts and become a major "ear worm!" |

The Cuz has the most high pitched squeak ever! It was the first to that I ever bought Clyde (the bad one of course) but the nails-on-the-chalkboard scream that it made was evil. One day he just disappeared. I have no idea what happened, I swear... |
Brie looooves the squeakies but the soft fluffy ones, she sits there when bored and just hits the right spot to make a noise. She has us in stiches some nights if we are watching a movie or something and not paying attention, then out they come, noise plus, with a look from her of HELLO IT'S ME.
Kelsey hates them and freaks out with the noise from them and if she can get to them will rip them to pieces so she does not have to listen to the squeaks.LOL Sooooo brie stirs her up with that if no attention from mommy or daddy. Mine often end up with surgery if kels has gotten to them |
Just played The Squeaky Deaky song While Mitch was having his tea and he came flying up the stairs looking for his new sqeaky toy
All mitches squeaky toys are soft ones .He will play with the vinyl/plastic ones but they only last a couple of weeks and then they fall apart.I think he chews them to hard. |
Louie loves squeaky toys. He has a few squeaky balls(including one REALLY annoying one ) and a some squeaky stuffed animals. I only supervise him with the stuffed animals because he likes the stuffing inside them-so sometimes he tries to rip them. |
I love watching Walter "find squeaker"...he'll vitis all his little hiding places around the house, and will bring me two or three toys of all sorts. Then, as if to prove to me, he pokes his nose right down the line of toys, seeing which ones squeak and which don't. When he hears the "EEEEEE" he knows it's time to play! So cute, and VERY smart! |

Where would I find those? I have only seen the obnoxious high pitched ones |
I think we found gorilla and shrek at petsmart...they both have lower pitches to them...I might have found one of them in the Kroger pet aisle...
Here's a bad shot of gorilla (so you can see his size) And here's a shot of shrek... |
Here's a pic of baby pippin with his squeaky lamb- he loves it and it is a very mellow, almost soothing squeak... Got mine at petsmart- it is a floppy sheep with long arms!
|
kar...bring pips over for a playdate....Im so in love ......panda would love him too! |
He's SOOO huge now... I've gotta take a similar shot of him and me on the couch with the lamb as a comparison. MY BABY IS GROWING UP TOO FAST!!! |
There's no better sound when I'm working upstairs and I hear Frank playing on his own downstairs squeaking a squeeky toy. It's so adorable! |

Lol. 50% of that is knowing that he isn't destroying something else. |
