teach me about feeding BARF!

first off, apologies for never signing in to post. one day, when i move into the 21st century and get DSL or a cable modem, i will have the patience for that extra step.

okay, so we're seriously considering switching our boys (felix, 5 1/2 mo sheepie, chester, almost 2 yo chow/golden) to a BARF diet (after doing tons of research, of course). does anyone here feed BARF?

in particular, i'm wondering:
- what is a day's worth of food for your sheeper? chester weighs 65 lbs and felix will top out at just over 100, and they're pretty active; i'm picturing having to get an industrial freezer to keep all the chicken carcasses it will take to feed the two of them.
- whether anyone can recommend good websites/books/etc?
- your feelings about BARF, how your dogs are doing, etc ... just some personal stories.

right now we feed wellness, but we want the very best for our furkids. any help is very much appreciated! my posts to OES-L never work, so y'all are my main resource at this point.

Hi there.....
Pisco is a very picky eater.....but he sure loves to eat chicken liver....my vet told me not to give him chicken bones (leg bones) because they are splintery and can harm the dog`s throat and cause serious harm....other bones are ok only if your dog is a "delicate" eater since they will chew on it a lot.
But also here there are not many people that can afford expensive dog food and they usually give their dogs BARF and they are doing good.... so I guess you`ll have to go with your own belief.....
I wam thinking about putting Lola on a barf diet as well. My sisters in law have their shelties and 2 sheepie on it. One of the shelties was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago and that's when she switched her to barf. He is still alive and kicking. Plus ther other had/has the 2 sheepies on it. Buddy passed over last year at a good age of 14. But Farley is still getting by, a little shaky but okay.

Anyway, I think it's a good diet that can extend their life (and quality of life). Here is one link I looked at before. The important thing to research is that you are giving them the right combinations of protein, fats, vitamins etc. My sis's in law have them all on supplements of Vitamins.
Also try ground raw turkey, they say they like it.

I need to do more research before I put Lola on it. Good luck.

Also if you do a search for BARF diet you will get other sites.
There is a raw foods email group on Yahoo called Raw-Fed Old English Sheepdogs. The group was quite active iniatially but falls off for awhile until another newbie joins and then picks up. Log onto Yahoo.com, set up a free account, find "groups" and then find the group. Join.
