Hotspots and Tumors

Hannah went to the vet yesterday. In January a tumor appeared suddenly on her back left paw between her toes. I took her to the emergency vet thinking at that time that it might be an abscessed sticker. Long story but we ended up at the regular vet and it turned out to be a tumor. She had it operated on (15 stitches) and biopsied and after several weeks of new bandages and medicine and care that foot is finally healed. On one of the vet visits I had noticed her nail was growing into her dew claw on her front paw and it was sensitive to her so I asked the vet to trim it. It turned out she is growing another tumor. (See pictures) It is on or around her dew claw. I'm not really sure because I can't tell which part is the dew claw and which is the tumor since usually she has fur there so it's not an area I'm used to looking at. The vet shaved it so we can watch the tumor. She said we're not going to do anything right now but to watch it and to call next week. Hannah is also prone to hot spots on both of her front paws. So that is shaved too and we have dermalone lotion to put on her and she received an injection in the hotspot and also a chiropractic treatment in case maybe a nerve was sensitive the reason she has a propencity to lick that paw. The vet told me what kind of tumor it is, but my brain turned to mush from worry and I don't remember plus I don't know the types of tumors anyway. She also has a cyst (newly developed under her chin) It feels like a small marble and moves around. The vet said it might go away on it's own. We are keeping an eye on it. I also discovered that in the last few weeks. Hannah is a really good sport. It was especially stressful in January because she got the tumor on the exact same day that our Katrina had gotten sick a few years before. Katrina died a week later. So I'm always very sad this time of year anyway. Hannah is really a good girl and a dream patient. She was so sick after her surgery. They wanted to keep her overnight but they leave at 7PM. Since we are 24 hr kind of people and dogs I insisted Hannah come home where I could watch her and not be left alone. She was fine the first few hours and then preceded to throw up the entire night so I was glad she wasn't alone.

Awww poor beautiful honey. . .
The hotspot looks so hot and raw.
I hope she feels better soon and that the tumor and hot spot GO AWAY.
Poor baby. I can't look at her face without thinking of Clyde and that makes me feel doubly worse! My Lucy gets hotspots pretty bad during allergy season. Was the vet able to give her any steroids (other than the shot) to help ease the irritation?
Poor Baby and such a good girl too. Did you get a Lab report (Pathology) from the Vet. A lot of tumours turn out to be mixed cell tumours and are benign, but can turn malignant if left and not removed. Has the new one on her been needle biopsied? They can do that to see if it is a nasty one or not without actually removing it with more surgery. So then you know wether to have it removed or not.

Give Hannah a hug and I hope her hot spots settle down, poor lil baby she has not had a good time lately.

With tumours the ones that you have to worry about is the ones they say are malignant, they are the ones that spread through the body and cause cancer/tumours elsewhere. Had that in one of mine at the age of 7, it was removed sent away, came back as malignant and took another 2 operations to get all the abnormal cells around the surgery site removed to clear healthy tissue to stop it spreading through the body. She lived for another 7 years as we got it early. She also had after that lumps come up and they turned out to be Fatty Limponas and when a new one appeared I had them biopsied and fatty limponas are a benign tumour so they were left alone, they are only removed if they start to grow in size or are interferring with the dog.

Best wishes for hannah and belly rubs for all that she is going through :hearts:
ow... looks so sore.....
Oh, that poor sweet girl :( There are many who believe in the power of willard water for hot spots, maybe that would help. Big hugs from Daisy and the boys.

Our poor Aspen used to get hot spots but never had any bumps.
Awwww kisses to Hannah...poor baby! Looks like it hurt, but she looks like a lady all the same...xo
Poor Puppy.

Bunker is prone to them too. I had one removed 3 weeks ago and I found another one on Tuesday night. I have to call the vet and get it removed again.
Thanks guys for your concern. My camera is not true with the colors red and brown. So my pictures are coming through a little more intense regarding those colors. Her hotspot is not as inflamed as it looks in the pictures.

Thanks for telling me about Willard Water. I haven't heard about Willard Water before, but I have heard of waters with molecular structures being altered for healing like Kabbalah Water. So I'm going to look into getting the Willard Water.

My vet is a regular vet but also holistic. So I'm pretty sure the shot wasn't a steroid yet. Although I know in some instances she does use steroids because Katrina had had them.

The tumor is not biopsied yet because we just discovered it two weeks ago and they wanted to get her other foot healed before we even dealt with the next thing.

I can't believe how worry turns my brain to mush when I talk to the vet. You can think you're a reasonably intelligent person but just go to the vet with a sick baby and you'll see how little you can remember.

Anyway, I think she told me we are waiting to watch the tumor another week because she was leaving town this week so couldn't do surgery now. Plus I think she realizes how alarmed I get regarding Hannah's health and was playing it low key. Just a thought.
Ouchie :(
Hoping it's benign. Please keep us posted on how your beauty is doing.
Hi,

Sending lots of belly rubs and sloppy sheepie kisses from my boys to Hannah.

Blue can relate as his body is covered with benign lumps and he's hoping it's the same thing with Hannah. He thinks she's beautiful!

Hugs to Hannah's mom too as like you said brain turns to mush when you have a sick baby. You take care of yourself too!

Marianne and the boys
Chiming in late, but I hope she's doing well. Poor darling!
I also hope she's doing well - good luck and lots of love from FL!
How is Hannah doing, any luck with the hotspots?

Hannah is doing wonderful. Her hot spot is healing great and no change in the tumor or cyst. Thanks for asking.
