Darcy I wouldn't know Is it the same brand? Perhaps it's a ploy to make more money. |
Coke Zero doesn't have the diet coke taste. I can drink coke zero, but I can't drink diet. It tastes like 2-liter bottled cola to me. |
I know, I really like it better too....but what is the difference????? Its one of those questions that if the coke people dont know, who does???? |
Here in Norway the difference between caffine free diet coke and coke zero is:
caffine free diet coke is without coffine and sugar coke zero is without sugar |
umm... could it be the sweetner? I think Coke Zero is supposed to not have any calories too... so it is sweetend with something strange. |
here coke zero has no caffine either...... |
Well, there's a difference between caffeine free diet coke and coke zero and diet coke. Coke Zero was introduced to taste more like the real thing. And I think it does. Maybe a less tinny taste that you get with DC. I personally think regular coke is too sugary (I feel like it coats my teeth with sugar) so I've always liked DC better. It is like Pepsi One, or whatever they came up with a while ago that was supposed to be more 'real tasting' than Diet pepsi... |
I'm ALMOST sure it is the no calories thing..., but I'd have to look at a bottle |
Zero is supposed to have zero carbs/calories......diet is supposed to be just diet. Either way, I have been told by many people (including doctors) that they both have some sort of "stuff" in it that actually makes you crave it! So, the whole diet thing is not goo if you are "over doing it" as a result of the cravings...... .....and you are right zero does taste different, kinda has a lemon hint to it! |
Okay, dork that I am...I went to cocacola.com and looked it up.
Regular Coke has 97 calories and 27 grams of carbs and 33mg of sodium (the other 2 are negligable for both sodium and carbs) and 41 grams of phosphorous. Coke Zero is zero calories (.7) and it has as much caffeine as regular coke (23 mg) but not as much as Diet Coke (31 mg). Diet Coke has 1 calorie and has 125mg of aspartame, Coke Zero has 58 mg of aspartame and 31 mg of Acesulfame potassium. So there's your difference! |
Thanks Steph |
Hello! I actually used to work for Coca Cola's ad agency, so I kind of have the inside scoop:-)
Coke Zero was developed with a different mixture of artificial sweetners to taste more like Coke Classic (also- to taste more like Coca Cola Light in Europe). Coke realized that fewer men were drinking Coke Classic, but they didn't think that these men would want the image of being Diet Coke drinkers. So, Coca Cola Zero was born as the male, more Classic tasting version of Diet Coke. You'll notice on the packaging and in the ads that it says "Coca Cola Zero" instead of Coke- again to make sure that consumers think that it is more like Coca Cola with no calories, than like Diet Coke. :-) |
ooohh...so Im drinking a "manly" drink...go figure |
hmmm...that advertising must work...at christmastime when my inlaws were in town we went to the grocery store and my hubbie's brother went to pick out a drink and it was the Coke Zero--for that exact reason! He didn't want regular coke because of all the calories...but wanted something more substantial seeming than diet coke--how funny! |
Too funny, I've actually been wondering about that, but wasn't interested enough to actually look it up. I'm glad someone did though...LOL |
Yours Truly is the proud Uncle of that advertising mogul RachieP25...
Thanks RachieP25! |

I've never seen caffeine free coke zero in Michigan. Coke zero is what I drink exclusively, except for Faygo every once in awhile. Coke Zero is actually supposed to use that "super sweetener" (can't remember the name and I'm too lazy to look it up) the one that is however many times sweeter than aspartame. That's what allows you to taste the sweeter, "regular" Coke taste rather than the slight aftertaste you get from saccharin and aspartame. About a month ago I read a huge article on the birth of artificial sweetners in Vanity Fair while I was sitting with dye on my head at the salon. I feel like I know an embarassing amount of knowledge about Sweet N Low now! |
Darcy wrote: What the heck is the difference between caffine free diet coke and coke zero? Even the coke distributer at the grocery store couldnt tell me...they do taste different...but the ingredients on the can are exactly the same
caffeine free diet coke uses a different concentration of the same ingredients and has more carbs (but not by much) and more calories (by a lot) also zero may have caffeine....... |
And to add more confusion, I prefer C2, which is advertised as "half the calories, half the caffeine" of regular Coke. I don't drink pop very often but hate the taste of Diet Coke so will buy C2 instead. My stepson Ian and I both love it but we're worried that they're going to discontinue it now that Coke Zero is out. |
