Right now, she eats ProPlan canned but, in the last year or so, she doesn't have the best stools. She's been through all her tests at the vet and there's nothing else causing it so I thought I'd try some quality, organic food to see if that changed anything. Heck, I'd be happy if all it did was eliminate a little gas! The ProPlan is a nice stew like consistency and looks pretty appetizing. If the food looks like dog food, she won't eat it. I'm also open to other "non dog food consistency" quality canned food suggestions for the senior dog if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks! |

Jill. I tried the Chicken Soup food for Beau to entice him to eat, he liked it and so did the others. I got it at Claudes, if I remember right it was when you got your thinning shears. It's near the back of the store, behind it is the birdseed. I don't think they carry the Newman food but I didn't really look for it so I don't know. |
That's right-- I remember that. What's it look like, Holly? Is it a stew like consistency or more dog foody/Spam looking? |
It actually looked pretty good, I think I got the one with duck.

My brother feeds it and his litle itty bitty tiny eeensie weeeensie little bitty poodle enjoys it.
That sentence is longer than "Squirt", too. We were both glad when we looked at the Diamond Brand website and found that Chicken Soup brand doesn't have any corn in it, so no real danger of the aflatoxin in that brand. |

Hi,
I feed it occasionally to my "boys", Merlin, Panda and Blue. They all love it as do the cats when I purchase the cat food version for them. I would use it with more frequency but it's currently only available at a Pet Food store which I don't get a chance to visit as often as I'd like. I've only seen the 10 pound bags and with my three this only last a couple meals. Wish I could find it in 40 pound bags. I love the ingredients in it...for those of you curious about it: "Contains only the finest, purest quality ingredients" Fresh, never frozen chicken. Multiple Animal Protein Sources Fresh chicken, turkey, duck, salmon and egg protein.Naturally Pure Fruits, Herbs and Vegetables such as apple, cranberry, rosemary extract, parsley combined with potatoes, carrots and peas. Multiple Grains Flaxseed and Omega 3 Fatty acids Dried Chicory Root Vitamin E No Artificial Coloring or Flavoring. You can tell by looking on the label the first ingredient listed on any label is what that particular product has the most of. For example pick up a juice container and most parents will be suprised that many list sugar and water in the first ingredients. But going off topic here. Just yesterday I looked out of interest at most dog food products on the market and corn or corn product was ingredient listed first. In this product the meat is always listed first along with grains, rice and veggies or fruit. It's an excellent product and I highly recommend it for those thinking of using it. |
I alternate giving my dogs canned Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul and canned Wellness. The dogs like the Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul better than the Wellness. We also occassionally feed them canned Merrick (much more expensive).
The consistancy of Chicken Soup is rather like spam with small chunks of vegetables - carrots, peas etc. The consistancy of Merrick is much more like a thick stew. First ingredients of chicken soup for the dog lover's soul are: Chicken, Turkey, Chicken Broth, Duck, Salmon, Chicken Liver, Whole Grain Brown Rice, White Rice, Oatmeal, Carrots, Peas, Potatoes, Barley... |
