Pit Bulls aside, I thought Rufus was just plain ugly (lovable though he may be) and was appalled that of all the beautiful dogs and breeds he was chosen as best in show. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??????????????? |
Supposedly he had the perfect football shaped head |
Perfect to drop kick
sorry, couldn't resist |
I like the bull terrers, especially the minis. I didn't think they were considered vicious like the Staffs. They always look so jolly. I hope this breed doesn't get ruined like the other "bully" breeds. |
I had a Bull Terrier, and showed her. I've also owned a doberman, German Shepherd and always wanted a rottie. I love all dogs, including pit-bulls, staffies, and all the bullie breeds. There were some municipalities that enacted BSL in the past couple of years, but this past fall a province-wide law went into affect. Very sad. There were umpteen hearings held, and the expert witnesses like behaviorists, vets, the kennel clubs, shelters etc all voted against it...but it was rammed thorugh by the politicians. They even had victims stating that it is not the dog's fault, but the owners.
Now the people who use them for fighting have just taken them further underground and the rest, with the nice pets have to suffer. It is very sad indeed. We are all waiting to see what the next breed of choice will be.. |
I don't agree with BSL.
Having said that, I am getting more and more aggravated that we aren't doing enough with viscious dog laws. I am aware that it's not usually the dog, it's the owner but we need to do something to make people learn to control their animals. If that can't be done we are looking at the eventuality that all pet ownership will be legislated. After the dog park incident where my dog got attacked by a pit bull with an idiot for an owner I've become more and more angry that there aren't more consequences for when a dog attacks any living creature be it person or animal. Here in PA, as well as most other states, nothing can be done unless the dog harms a human being. Many dogs show vicious tendencies toward other dogs and smaller animals before they attack a person and then it's too late. I know we can't force feed education to people but since the incident with Carl I've been trying to figure out where I stand on this whole thing. I do believe that a lot of the responsibility lies with the breed's parent club. If you don't want your breed to be legislated then you need to stand up and do something about it. You can't stop people from owning your breed but the general public can be educated to know what is right and what is wrong and how to deal with problems when they arise in the first place. Although we all know that if things were as easy us chatting and saying it's all about education, there'd be no more puppy mills. Maybe the answer is selective breeding and wide ranging spay and nueter programs, for the owners! |
It is ashame BSL is creeping in everywhere, here Pit Bulls are now banned along with 3 other breeds from coming into the country. The ones remaining here are to be muzzled in public, wear a dangerous dog collar and the owners have to ensure that the animal is confined to a secure area on their property. They also have to de-sex them so eventually the ones that remain will no longer exist here. Wether that is right or wrong it is affecting people that have anything that resembles these breeds.
There has been lots of cases of dogs being seized, but mistaken identity of the particular banned breed, that is what happens!! Anything that resembles a Pit Bull or the other banned breeds is targeted! Yes staffies here, bull dogs etc. I not a fan at all of Pit Bulls BUT I don't think any particular breed should be targeted. I say ban certain individuals from ever owning animals that are irresponsible in the training and control of certain breeds and leave any breed alone if it is in the care of people that are experienced and responsible with a particular type of breed. If BSL keeps spreading then there will be lots of other breeds affected too, not only the so called dangerous breeds but dogs with short legs and long bodies, dogs over a certain height and on and on it goes, dogs with brachy bites etc. etc. etc.!! Well done to Rufus, not the most handsome of dogs, but must be one special guy to take out BIS and I am sure he must be a sweetie too |
