Rags is being spayed today

I brought her in about an hour ago. She should be home at 4:30pm
With all my bad luck lately I am going to ask that you all cross your fingers for us.
I have no experience with a spaying. When my Boxer was spayed it was during her c-section and she recooperated at my friend's house (My boxer was orginally her dog, so when we found out she was preggers she agreed to keep the pups and Mama there at her house until we sold the pups and I made daily visits.) I did not see her do much other than eat, feed the pups. What should I expect?
Thanks

Elissa,

I think your due for some good luck for a change. Keep us posted!
Fingers, toes and paws crossed for rags. She will be fine, mostly just keep her quiet till the stiches come out, no running around with Mr. Pepsi.
Hugs for Rags :D
E, when panda was fixed, she slept a lot and gave us long sad looks for a whole day...broke my heart and played off of my emotions...she was back to normal in about 24 hours.
When maggie was spayed, she was groggy at first, but then we had to try hard not to have her tear through the house like a madsheepie...
Everything crossed Elissa . :D
I just picked Rags up. The winds came out of no where 40 to 50 mph gusts from the east. My Roller Skate (Honda CR-V) was all over the road.
I was dodging head on collisions with tumble weeds. I walk into the Vet after being out of the car for 15 seconds with sand in my eyes and mouth :cow:
After getting Rags in the car I decide to take the back way home.
Avoid the Freeway..... avoid the swerving trucks. The wind was also crazy going home. It was slamming into the side of the Roller Skate, so were the tumble weeds. Rags looked at my so pathetically, like just get me home.
First thing she did after getting home was go outside, eat some grass and threw up. I guess the combo of crazy driving conditions and anesthesia and pain killer must have gotten to her.
Poor girl :(
She is now resting by the couch.
Peanut came over to sniff her and she snapped at him....lol
He hasn't bothered her since.... Pepsi is also not bothering her.
Maybe the explaining I did to him earlier made sense to him.
He was soooo upset when I came home with out her.
I just brought one of my dogs home from being spayed today, too. My vet likes to keep them overnite, but she also had a spay, dental and had 3 teeth extracted yesterday, so was under for a while. Soft mushy food due to the sore mouth, and lots of quiet time. She has a bandage all around her belly. Does Maggie? It will be hard for your dear girl to refrain from running and playing with Pepsi for a while, but it is all for the best.
Hugs....
Glad you both have your girls home. I am always amzed at fast they heal. Keeping them quiet was such a pain.

We fed them the homemade chicken and rice mix until they were cleared for full activity. The pain meds given by the vet slows doen their intestinal movement a bit, so we opted for the low-residue diet to reduce straining (and stress on the incision). My vet's preferred post-opt care.
Rags does not have any bandages.
Last night she was very quiet. She went out once when we got home, then once before bed. She didn't even try to get on the bed with us.
Pepsi was such a good boy during the evening. He didn't bother her at all.
Rags was stationed at her Daddy's feet next to the couch. Pepsi insisted on Billy moving so he could sit on the couch over where she was sitting so he could watch her and make sure she was ok.
She is still pretty quiet this morning so I think she will heal pretty quickly.
Elissa, so good to hear Rags is home and on the mend! No bandages? 8O Wow! How do you prevent leakage from getting on stuff? Does she have stitches or staples?

Pepsi is so cute with wanting to be near her but at the same time keeping his distance. What a good boy!! :go:

Good luck, and keep us posted!

Chris
Hi Chris,
Rags has disintegrating stitches. I haven't seen any leakage and also it's a pretty small scar, about 2 1/2 inches.
We both thought it was adorable with Pepsi wanting to watch over her.
He is such a loving pup!
Panda didnt have any bandages either..just those disintergrating stitches too....the vet had to pull the last two out because they wouldnt disolve.
I forgot to say that Rags gained another two pounds...... Yay Rags... and I think Pepsi actually lost some weight. Rags kinda stole Pepsi' bowls. lol
He in now eating out of Harley's old bowls. He is still not to sure on the change.
Before I left the Vet I looked at the spaying papers to make sure their weren't any mistakes....you know with my luck and all....
Sure enough they had her listed as a Male/Neutered.
I told the girl at the desk and one of the Vet Techs said....Oh yeah, Rags wasn't the sex change op :rimshot: ... :D
They reprinted it.... Now today I get to get Rags her license.
Elissa,

so glad to hear Miss Rags came through her spay fine, and id healing well... Too funny about the wierd paperwork! The worst I've had is the vet thinking Iris' name was Irish... I had to correct him every time we went there... "IRIS, like the flower".
Elissa - I'm glad to hear Rags in on the mend and that Pepsi is being such a good boy around her. What a sweetie! :D

Too funny about the paperwork mix-up! :D The vet tech's comment reminded me of a joke.

Remember the man that was being extremely rude, loud & obnoxious to the receptionist in the vet's office? He just refused to lower his voice or be reasonable. Finally a vet tech said to him, Sir, you really need to calm down. Do you know what we do with unruly males in this office???   :rimshot:
LMAO too funny Tammy
Glad to hear that Rags is doing so well after her surgery. Our situation with Annie didn't go so well 3 yrs ago. I'm sure it had something to do with the fact that she was almost 6 yrs old and had 1 or 2 C-sections. Our old vet didn't like keeping the dogs overnight after being spayed as he thought dogs would be more comfortable in their own environment. That concept makes sense...I suppose. Steve picked Annie up and she came home drugged out, eyes completely dilated. She was panting so heavily & just stood looking at the wall & refused to lay down. I finally got her to stand on a sheet and some soft rugs. All of sudden she tipped over (LIKE A COW) 8O and some stitches started bleeding. It was horrible! We wrapped some old tshirts around her and back to the vet she went for a night. We picked her up late the next day and it was as if nothing ever happened to her. Unfortunately, several of her stitches didn't dissolve so we had to go back a few more times. Wouldn't have been so bad but that vet wasn't close by at the time. Glad it's over!
