Canada is such a large country but we only have aprox 33 million people so overall we do pretty good in the standings. I love the Olympics and watch it faithfully. It doesn't matter if there are Canadians competing in a particular event that I'm watching or not. I love the stories behind the athletes and will usually favor the one that had overcome a particular hardship to make their dream come true. I'll cheer the Norweigans, the Fins, Germans, U.S and the list goes on. However when someone from my country wins , one can't help but feel national pride. I miss Katerina Lamay Doan the awesome speed skater! Does anyone remember Eddie Eagle from years ago? Think he was in downhill skiing. He was the British fellow that had no hope of ever winning but boy did he try hard and entertained the crowds. He didn't win anything but won everyone's hearts. In the spirit of comeraderie and competition it's great to see the athletes the world over congratulating each other over their accomplishments. Sportsmanship at it's best! The next winter Olympics will be held in my city in 2010 and already we are excited! Marianne and the boys |

I watched the Ice Skating short routine last night and WOW just love it.
Also them skiers racing down hill over those mougles. Love the winter olympics, must be something to do with all that lovely snow. Very few aussies but we have some entered as snow is only short term here and most of us have to travel to see it, lots of states in OZ never have snow |

Uh oh... |
I thought Eddie the Eagle was a jumper. Could be wrong. And then there was the Jamaican bobsled team. You just know they had fun. |

Eddie "the Eagle" was the UK's first ski jumper - which takes even more guts than the downhill! He placed dead last in the Calgary Games. I can remember holding my breath when he wobbled his way down the jump run |
My question is this....when you decide to start as a ski jumper...what kind of hill do you start off of???? If it is a small hill, how can you learn the correct technique and if it is off that big bad one, how do you not break your neck the very first time...Hmmmmm??? |
Darce- my sister and I had THIS VERY QUESTION! We have this gigantic (looking anyway) ski jump by my work, and it looks TERRIFYING! There's no way I'd have the guts to get up on that thing and ski off!! Nu uh no way, no how!!!! We'd didn't come up with a solution though.... I wonder how you get started in that sport??? |
I saw some of the snowboarding and the ski jumping.
The ski jumping looks fun.....something I would never do...but still fun. |

Ha ha yuppers I agree - thems fighting words. I'm picking up my harpoon now to prepare my specialty - fish stick dinner. That way we can kill them with kindness!! Nyuck Nyuck!! |
In Norway the children are taken out on ski when they are 2-3 years old, and they are playing around in hills where they build their own jumps, so we all have try’d it , but they start the serious training when they are 10-12 y. old, and the jumps are about 4-5 meter high. It is fun you should all try it |
We got more medals today!!!!!! I realy love to be a Norwegian |
