Printer Panic

Blue absolutely freaks out whenever I print something out at the computer, which since I work from home is fairly often. He just goes nuts, running around and crying, even jumping up on the desk a few times. Anyone else have this... well, it's not exactly a problem except for how worked up he gets over it. Does this happen with anyone else? Any ideas why he hates the printer so much?

He's pretty much just a big scaredy cat. He's terrified of the recycling and trash trucks, buses, or any big loud vehicles. If one goes by, he'll come flying from wherever he is in the house and try to crawl up in my lap. If it's in the morning, he'll leap in bed and cuddle up against me. Apparently, I'm his safety blanket. It's really cute, but I hate seeing him that upset. We recently found out from our friend at the Humane Society that he was hit by a vehicle when he was young and I wonder if it was some sort of large truck. It's funny though, we live near a fire substation and the fire engines screaming by several times a day have never fazed him in the least.

My old HP LaserJet 4L used to make a very high pitched whine as it was powering up and running.

If your printer isn't doing that, then maybe he's just freaked out by an inanimate object coming to life. Does he go ballistic over the vacuum too?
Carl does the same thing with the printer and I have no reason for it. I have gotten him to calm down a bit over the years but still some sort of reaction. It doesn't matter if he's sleeping under it and it kicks on or if he's in another room and it starts. He still barks at it and runs off then comes back and barks at it and then looks at whoever is printing and barks.
He will stop if we walk away when it starts printing so maybe he just doesn't want you near it while it's making noises and working.
Carl also doesn't like the vaccuum but he doesn't bark or freak out he just doesn't want to be by it and keeps a close eye on it while he's within 5 feet.
No but Barkley tries to attack my laptop whenever I boot it up. I used to lay in bed and use my wireless but I can't anymore because it just freaks him out too bad.
Don't even get me started about Clyde and the vacuum... Or the carpet sweeper... Or the swiffer... Or the carpet steam cleaner.

I've come to the realization that it's anything that sweeps across the carpet. We've started working on this with the help of some tips from Cesar Millan. It works, but it stinks to have to go through the whole process everytime we have a little spill!
Blue used to be scared of the vacuum, but he's gotten over it now. He's still a little wary, as if it could turn on him at any time, but he'll come up and sniff it now and has even let me vacuum him a few times. Most things he seems to get used to fairly well, but the printer just really sends him into a frenzy, whether I'm in the room or not. The other day, I started it printing a long manuscript and went downstairs to start dinner. I heard Blue freaking out upstairs and rushed back up to see what was wrong and it was all about the printer. Oh well. Just a quirk, I suppose.
He's not scared-- he's angry! He attacks it like it's prey. I think he thinks that they're robots coming to take over the house so he's just defending us!
 Maybe you've let Clyde watch too many Sci-Fi flicks!

I blame that on his daddy...
Mine are pretty good with unusual or loud noises, if they hear something different we usually just get the head tilt from side to side. Good with thunder, loud bangs, BUT, we have the vacuum cleaner monster that lives at our place. 8)

OK my fault did try to suck a sheepie up with it once, when she refused to move
Izzie doesn't like the vacuum, but most noises don't upset her.

There are two things that FREAK HER OUT.

Animal noises on the television...and believe it or not....foil.

She gets so upset and starts jumping around when I try to tear foil off the roll. It is so bad that we try to only use foil when she is outside.

Everything spooks Dixie, poor thing. She ran terrified from an airplane flying overhead, yesterday and the pepper-grinder sent her running out of the kitchen. Hopefully she will soon settle down and get used to different noises, and not freak so much. And that TV....she is still very suspicious of it. We just ignore her behavior, and let her deal with it on her own.
My 5 yr old shelite is very sound sensitive, and freaks at almost anything...the washing machine, the coffee-maler, the vacume-cleaner, any razor, the floor-boards creaking, wood being chopped etc. etc. etc. Thunder being the worst.
Bosley just reacts to her reaction. He mostly just leaves if the vacum or something noisy comes out.
We haven't found anything that bothers Benjamin, but not for lack of trying...thanks to my hubby and oldest son! Thank Heavens he just goes with the flow!

He does however like to bite the blow dryer and shop vac........
Frank freaks when he hears the CD/DVD tray of my computer open up which makes barely little noise. Have no idea why he finds that so traumatic but he whimpers & runs out of the room. I think he needs an intervention.
