About the food I don`t know because they don`t sell it here....I give Pisco Pro Plan mixed with a local brand called Mymascot witch is really good...but on the bath....try not to bathe him so often..sometimes they can develop skin problems such as alergies or poor skin defenses (my vet told me so) try al least every 15 days if it is too much but once a month is just ok...do comb him at least every other day since that way `he won`t get tangles witch later are harder to remove....if gets dirty or wet...dry him and then brush him...the dirt will fall away. |
I had a long talk with my vet about frequent bathing. I use a soap free shampoo that is made just for skin dogs.It is the only relief from itching he gets.I also use a rehydrating spray also from my vet. I have used Pro plan food in the past also Eukanuba both good foods but recently I also read a lot of stuff about what goes into dog food scary! That is why I want to feed Innova it is all humane grade no by-products. I just was hoping some one might have some experiance with it. Thanks for the reply I love talking dog. |
just a thought ....have you tried putting some camomille tea on his itchy spots? it works a lot and it also is a great anti-inflamatory....dab a cotton ball with luckwarm camomille tea and apply it to the spots ...it calms a lot and it won`t clash with your regular meds.
I had a Belgian Sheperd with the same problem and camomille helped a lot. |
He dosn't have any hot spots he just itchys all over.I wonder if I could use a Tea rinse?I saw you pictures of pisco he is so sweet, what a fun puppy dog. Thanks for the info let me know what you think about a rinse. |
Look under this topic, around March 1, 2004, under subject dog food. I think Danik said she uses Eukanuba. Ask her about it.
I am afraid I use Nutro Max, and have never tried Eukanuba. It is a shame about rendering plants and what they use to feed out pets. I tried feeding mine "home made", but I need to get more organized first. Good luck. And try using the search feature here. You just hit Search up there in the header. I would recommend searching the posts and not the topics. Presto, you get the posts with Eukanuba in it. Since this topic comes up a lot, maybe we should Put together a survey on it? But I seem t remember one from last year. Guess I need to go do a search, huh? After a quick search it seems that many of us listed what we feed our dogs under this Topic and SUBJECT: sheepie survey. I think I will go edit my response to include what Abbi eats. |
Thanks I'll try that . |
If you mean a rinse as one after a bath I wouldn`t recomend it unless you want a light brown sheepie around.....Tea stains...that is why I just recomended swabing...of course the stains clear off but they do take their time to do so. |
I guess that is true I forgot about tea staining. This spray the vet gave me is helping some.I think when we go back to Virginia he will do better.I am crossing my fingers. If not I guess allergy test will be next. |
Abbi had this dandruff problem once. She would itch.
First I had to get rid of evry mat or beginning of mat she had. Then I shampooed her with a diluted dandruf shampoo. No conditioner. Brushed her out WHILE she was drying. Slicker brushed her every day from then on, and we never had the itching problem again. Although she does have allergies ... |
Carol....you should be VERY CAREFULL about using dandruff shampoo...I once asked my vet about it because I thought Pisco was having some and he told me a great NO ...he said dandruff shampoo especially head & shoulders are very toxic to dogs and cats...but in Pisco`s case he was just scratching himself....nothing serious...but I kept in mind about the shampoo. |
