Oh poor Sammy
Please keep us posted Jean |
Oh, that's awful!
That will be an interesting xray! I hope they get that lug nut out of Sammy soon!!! Who would have thought! Aren't they pretty big? |
First pantyhose and now lugnuts! Are these sheepies having some sort of sick and twisted contest to see who can consume the weirdest thing? |
Update on Sammy:
So I thought it was stuck in the stomach right before the sphincter... turns out it is stuck above the esophogealsphicter leading into the stomach so not as bad as I thought but still pretty nasty. At least they dont have to cut into the stomach itself. He is having surgery tomorrow at 9am belgium time so that is midnight in california. I will call my mom tomorrow when I get up and see how he is doing. She says the radiographs were pretty interesting. I will see if she can send them by snail mail to me. Next update coming soon. |
ahhh rats. I was hoping they'd see nothing -- but at least it's not as bad as possible.
Thanks for the update, I am pulling for you! |
That is good news. I am sure the surgery will go well.
Is the dog in Belgium? |
yes he is in belgium. We got him from a puppymill there. He was one of three but my mom wouldnt let me buy his sisters as well as him cause she said she couldnt deal with that. I bought him for her since I had our first OES with me here in california. His sisters were in good body condition but they had medical issues. I did a quick checkup on all of them before we decided who to get. Sammy was the one that looked the best and my mom wanted a boy anyway. He had really bad kennel cough that had progressed into bronchitis but we pulled him through and he is doing great... well up till a few days ago. Anyway, I will call my mom when I get home in a couple of hours and he should be back home recovering from surgery by then. I hinted that she should get him nutered while the vet was down there but I dont know if she went for it..... |
I hope all goes well today. Glad it is better than you thought. I was hoping the lugnut had miraculously passed through him. XOXOXO |
Frodo just went through a similar operation to remove an obstruction from his stomach and intestines. It can be a harrowing few days, but Sammy should be fine.
You are both in my prayers. |
from having been there, trust me, soon you'll laugh about this, I have Jack's X-Rays from when he ate half a rawhide bone whole on my wall...(he's still not allowed to touch rawhide again)
here's hoping you can skip the worry soon and get back to giggling with Sammy. |
Hi ,
I echo what Ron said, drat hopped it would turn out to be nothing. I'm sorry Sammy had to go through this and thanks for the update. I wish him a speedy recovery. Lots of sloppy sheepie kisses sent from my boys and a gentle pat on the head from me. Marianne and the boys |
Update:
Sammy is going great. The surgery went well and was quick. He is at home recovering with my mom. He has to wear a tshirt so he wont lick his incision but other than that he is fine. He goes for a recheck on friday evening to see how the incision looks. He also isnt allowed to eat anything until the vet give the ok. The sutures in his esophagus have to heal the incision in there before food can pass through it. Mom is making chicken boullion for him though so he can get something in his tummy. Since he was thorwing up the days before surgery he hasnt eaten since monday so he must be starving, the poor boy. Anyway, all is good and well. He sleeps a lot because it was a hard surgery but all in all he should recovery full in a few weeks and be back to his normal self if nothing goes wrong in the mean time. Thanks for everyone's kind words, Sammy appreciates it a lot. |
Glad to hear Sammy is on the mend...and remind him that LUG nuts are not your average nut! |
Glad to hear it all turned out ok! |
Yay Sammy... keep getting better! |
That's great news! |

Was that a joke Darcy??? Missed this post earlier but glad to hear all is well. Next time offer him some planters peanuts instead!!! |
LOL Ginny!!!
So glad to hear Sammy is recovering well!!!! Do we have the x-ray??? |
The xray is on its way over from Belgium... It will take a few weeks to get here but I will try to post it as soon as it gets here. Sammy is doing even better. He had a couple of shots of antibiotics because he wasnt getting well fast enough so the vet thought that he might have an infection going on but he is much better now. He gets 5 small meals of rice and cooked chicken a day for a while and then we can slowly start getting him back to his normal food. He has lost a lot of weight cause he wasnt allowed to eat anything for like a week but hell get back up to weight soon enough. He went out for a calm walk today and he has started running around the house again so thats a sign of him definitely getting better. |
Glad to hear he's on the mend, poor puppy!! |
Glad to hear he's doing well.....

Actually my dad did get his lugnut back although I personally would have gotten new ones. I spoke with him on the phone this morning and he was happy that he got it back. He also said that Sammy was very bad for taking it..... I said " no dad you are bad for leaving it laying around and not watching him" .... I mean he is only 9 months old. You dont leave anything around a young pup especially not a sheepie. He laughed and didnt take me seriously but my mom agrees with me. |
Update on Sammy.
Sammy is doing well. He has settled down a lot after his ordeal with the lugnut but is still his naughty self at times. He still loves to run around the house during his evening sheepie crazies in figure 8's. He has gained most of his weight back and is growing by the day. I posted the xray, so hopfully you guys can see it after admin approval. His surgery site is nicely healed and he is eating normally and playing well again. Back to like nothing happened. |
Hi,
So happy to hear Sammy is doing well. Sheesh a lug nut...who wouldda thought? They say truth is stranger than fiction! Kudos to you as well for realizing the possibility that he had even swallowed one. Marianne and the boys Sending Sammy a belly rub |
Soooooooo Glad!!!!!!!!!! |
