WEIGHT SUPPORT Section, perhaps???

I can definitely see that the Smoking support has helped me through the eyes of others....

I'm going through something quite personal with my doctor and my weight since last February. In the past two weeks I have relinquished all rights to junk food and fast food and I'm forced to take my daily iron/glutamate (sp?) pills...(like a 5 year old  )....Doctor's orders

I have been eating quite healthy for the past two weeks and literally DROPPED 15 LBS!!! And yes, I'm eating, I'm not starving..... I was put on what's called a Miami Health diet NOT to be confused with the South Beach diet....... (I have some recipes for VERY low fat low sugar items if anyone is interested)

I have another 2 weeks to go before I can start encorporating fatty "type" foods into my diet. Hamburger with no bun, or baked chicken...etc. etc.

The problem is there are times where I want to binge and go grab a shake or eat roasted potatoes with garlic...yummmm. I wonder if people are going through the same thing I am in this community (listers)...

Am I alone??? Are there others out there that need support while watching the intake of food...????

I'm in favor too. I know I could use some help with my eating habits. I've been going to Curves for 6 months and have lost some inches but no weight! I've gotta do better!!
I have a good friend of mine doing it with me...And it makes it better!!! The funny thing is...I'm eating and losing weight....like, eating FOOD FOOD..hahaha

I'm right here if anyone wants to talk about walks, treadmills, jogs...Doggy park walks...Anything...
It is SOOOO much easier doing it when you have someone doing it with you.

I've crashed on diets more than I can remember in the past year. This is working great. And the best part of all is I'm slowly losing my cravings!
Shall we try just renaming this category the "Quit Smoking / Lose Weight Support" section?

I know it's not an ideal name, but before I open a whole new section, can we see how it goes? The front page is getting long!
You are the boss!!! I think perhaps that would be a great idea!

 Yeeaahhh!!
Great Ron!!!

I to am for this. I bet it goes over well.

we can share the tricks we all have.

Deana
I'm looking forward to it, as well as trying to give up the smokes it would be nice to be able to control the weight as well
How about if we rename the whole section to Healthy Lifestyles - that emcompasses quitting smoking, losing weight, work out tips, etc - the whole "shebang"!! :D
That's not a bad idea at all! Keep'em coming!

Now THAT is an idea! I think that is actually perfect. Great Idea
I think Healthy Lifestyles id perfect... very appropriate. :)

I'm also on a diet. I used to be able to lose ten lbs on a whim, but not anymore. I've been wanting to lose weight for a couple years now, and each time i try to diet I end up gaining a bit.
Another vote for Healthy Lifestyles.

I joined Weight Watchers yesterday. I knew I have gained, but I didn't know how much 8O My first goal is to lose 17 pounds and I'd like to do that by my birthday in May.

So if I can't eat, can I smoke??????

No!...but you CAN exercise!! 8) 8)
Lol. I miss coming out of the gym after a hour of high impact cardio and lighting up. Man, that was a good cigarette.

Oops, sorry. I forgot I was in the non-smoking section and I digressed in the wrong direction. It was a bad cigarette. Bad!
Jill, that reminds me...I HATE it when I am running on the treadmill or on the elliptical and the person either next to me or across from me gets on and as soon as they start breathing hard it is like an ashtray! I've actually had to move treadmills before to get away from the smell 8O
Me too. Even as a smoker it disgusted me. I made sure I didn't smoke for at least 3 hours before I went and then changed my clothes before I went in there anyway. The smell made me sick while I was working out not to mention you look an idiot going into a gym reeking of smoke. By the time I was done though, I was ready since I'd purged my body of toxins!

There were always many things that other smokers did that bothered me even though I smoked. I couldn't stand the smell of smoke until I'd been up for at least 2 hours (so I never smoked then), I hated smelling it while I was eating, smelling it on me, people who thought it was cool to smoke in the car with the window barely cracked or not at all and, laugh away because everyone did, I didn't like to walk and smoke at the same time.
Do you like to chew gum and walk at the same time?

That's all very interesting to me. Having never smoked, I always wondered if it smoke ever bothered smokers and that sort of thing...

They just reintroduced a smoking ban in our state assembly...we'll see how it goes! They ran an article on it in the newspaper and then people could comment online and the responses are so interesting and varied about what people think on such a thing...
Ron, mark me down for Healthy Lifestyles!!!! I too need to loose some more baby weight!!!

I've been going to Curves for 6 months

I joined Curves last year but didn't go much  I just started again on Feb 1. And I've been doing a lot of walking. I walked the Phoenix 1/2 Marathon in January with a bunch of friends. The primary goal is to get my blood pressure and cholesterol down - both are borderline and I'm really resistant to taking medication if I can solve it with diet and exercise. But, to date I haven't been very consistent about diet and exercise, so the battle is on!
I have to say that Curves serves its purpose very well--in providing a quick, comforting, nurturing relaxed environment for women who want to begin an exercise program. I don't think it would work well for an 'advanced' or even intermediate exerciser or someone who is expecting to get supertoned from it. The routine is the same each time, as is the time spent on each machine, which won't allow for growth in one's ability. I think that it is great, but I think that it needs to have a graduation to a full scale gym after the person has been going for a certain amount of time. JMO

if you increase resistance you can always grow from the same routine.
Yeah, but the machines are all man powered...they don't have weights...
I've lost 32 lbs since Thanksgiving WITHOUT DIETING!!!! I'm exercising (which I have always done), watching portion sizes (no more second helpings), have cut out all deserts, and am sticking to "low fat". I can't believe how easy it gets once you are "in the groove". I really think I am one of those people who are addicted to sugar, the more I eat the more I want. One cookie is NEVER enough and sugar was a constant craving. But once I stopped eating sweets COMPLETELY (not even a single bite) I can honestly say I have lost the craving. It took almost two months to be able to honestly say I didn't "miss" the sugar.

I measure carbohydrate serving, eat all the vegies I want and have chicken or fish (or other protein) one meal a day.

A really GREAT site to check out is
www.mypyramid.gov

It's the new food pyramid and it gives portion sizes and number of suggested serving per day. The great thing about it is that is "customizes" your food pyramid based on your age,ex and activity level.
