This is Lil Deb checking out the cars driving down the road. I assume she hasn't had much exposure to this. Brenda, how far was the road from where the dogs were kept? You can see a bit where her coat was clipped in patches. Apparently she was so matted that she could hardly move, and she still has some scabs under the fur. And her she is wondering how to get down of the bay window. Her markings are very similar to Murphy's, so maybe they are related somewhere down the line. Still no name. Hubby wants to keep the name Lil Deb, but he has no imagination. One son wants to call her Fairy and the other likes Lina (a wrestler?). I am still trying out different names, but nothing yet. She is a wild thing. She doesn't walk anywhere, but runs and jumps. We are keeping her quiet as much as possible, to start teaching her what "calm" means. Her and Bosley would play all day, and it is raining and muddy out so not good for them. We cleaned out the garage so they have a couple times they can wrestle for a bit, to get some of that energy off. She is very freindly, and nosey, and normal household things spook her. For example she sniffed the TV and got a spark, and ran off, but came back to check it out again. All good signs that she has good "bounce back". And a houdini. Scales baby gates, and barriacades, and this morning I found her all proud of herself that she got out of her crate and was loose all nite. No damge or messes, though. We all like her, so far, but I keep reminding the family that we are FOSTERING her. She needs to get the edge off and get the basics of living in a normal family environment, that she is not used to, before she can move on. She is very sweet, and totally attention starved. |

Hey if she's getting into weird situations but coming back, that's great! She's seems pretty fun and she'll be a great pup in a short order. Good work! |
What a cutie! Those a great pictures. I can't believe she got out of the crate and did no damage. I'm envious. Maggie always finds something to destroy. What was her story? Fairy is a cute name. |
Congrats!
When did you get her? I'm a little confused, as I know some of the people who were supposed to be helping get her to you.... oesmum thought she might be picking her up at the airport and bringing her to your house... I was thinking of going with her to help keep the dog calm....lol.... guess we're not doing that now! LOL |
She's cute! You're great for fostering her! |
Oh Nicole,
She is beautiful and she looks like she is settling in very nicely. I am relieved that her and Bosley are getting along. She probably feels very secure having another puppers around. Considering she was around 60+ most of the time. It doesn't surprise me that she can get out of her crate and scale the baby gate. I have seen these dogs, first hand, scale 8' fences when I was there.. no problem... it's like they have sucton cups for feet. Up and over. They were very very isolate. Way out in the country.. house was far from the road. I don't think they (dogs) had much exposure to riding in cars or to anything for that matter. Her and Murphy have the same compact little body and you are right, the markings.. except Murph is black and white. I am sure.. like you said.. they are related. Murphy's dad was an OES and his Mom was a Springer..but I don't hold that against him... I love him all the same. Keep us updated.. Sheepies Kissses from Murphy to Lil Deb. |
She's beautiful! And it seems like she's settling into "normalcy" pretty well.
What are the odds that the family is gonna let her go??? Good luck and keep us posted! Chris |

Yeah, I know all about that one! I've been saying that for 6 months now about Abby |

Under another thread I mentioned that she was being flown, so transport help was no longer required. She flew the whole way to me, from New Brunswick to Hamilton on Friday. Quote: What was her story? She was part of a December seizure of 60 some dogs from a breeder. Brenda's been there, and her Murphy came from the same place over a year ago. All the dogs were kind of running around wild. She was one of the worst ones, with matting and scabbing etc. She was at a boarding facility for the first few weeks, and she was not behaving so I think they were treating her a bit rough. A vet recommended she be PTS for behavior, and she was not adopted out so I offered to help. Then in her last couple week she was at the SPCA and they had no problems with her, and here she is. She is like the energizer bunny, go go go. She sure needs to learn a lot about living in a house. She jumps up on the counters, and tables, and knocked my coffee flying this morning. Good thing she is so dang cute! She spooked at the fridge door opening this morning, and every time the TV changed channels or a commercial came on she ran to her crate. Right now I am rewarding her with pats and attention whenever she has her 4 feet on the ground, or when she is lying down. She really wants to play with us, but we are trying to find a way to play that does not involve her running all around us and jumping on us. She doesn't understand toys, or balls so we'll work on that. She is very friendly and loving. Kisses anytime we ask. |
Lil Deb is just adorable, glad she is settling in well with bosley. If she ends up staying, I mean how can you resist that girl, fairy is a gorgeous name. I nickname my girls fairy floss.
She is a special girl!! & your right so DANG CUTE!! |

Awww! That is so sweet. Half the battle is already won when the dog starts with a good temperament. The training will come in time. Is she housebroken? She is a cutie pie. |
Sounds like Lil Deb is going to be just fine!
She's adorable, too! |

This orangatang doesn't sit still long enough to train anything She is not house-trained, in the sense of how to behave in a house. She bounces off the doors, windows, walls as she tears around. She'll try to climb up onto the counters, tables etc. and is just exploring away, something like a raccon might do, but a lot faster. She is a blur. But no potty issues so far, so hopefully by managing the situation she will get so used to going outside that inside will be a non-issue. We keep her contained and are always watching her, but she wiggles so much. The kids love how her tail vibrates non-stop. She sure makes us laugh. |
I'll take bouncing over poo and pee any day! |
She's cute! Thanks for adopting...er, fostering her! |

Me too! She sounds like my first oes, she was a rescue, and sooooo hyper too... |
I'm so glad you have Lil' deb..Fairy...she sounds like a hoot!
Hmmmm, what is the timeline that we use between fostering and adoption? When is it officially changed to adopting? 2,4,6 months...LOL! I have a feeling that she will be a star in our Antics thread! Looking forward to more Lil Deb-Fairy stories! |
I'm thinking she's already becoming an established member of your home. What a sweetheart!

We are finally narrowing down on a name for this girl, so the next post I do of her will be with her name. She is not bouncing nearly as much, so "Tigger" was dropped from the list. It is so cute as she comes running up to you then stops and stands there, looking to one side, waiting for a pat. She loves being rubbed so her "pat" is a rubdown, and she stays still as a rock when being rubbed all over.
She is still unsure of the TV and kind of slinks along behind the couch when going through the room. Same way she slinks up and down the stairs. She is learning all by herself that the door will not open when her head is jammed up against it. She is learning that the magic place to be at is 1 foot away and it opens! And then she waits for permission to race through. We took her to the dog park last nite. She lays down quietly on the seat, and Bosley takes up his chosen spot on the floor of the van so it works out well. Bosley kept an eye out for her the whole time, and she did not wander far from her big brother. And the best part is anytime we called her (with any of the names we are trying out) she would come barreling over to us. Excellant recall, even without even having to train it....for now. She is not food motivated, and still very boney. You can actually see her hip bones, under her fur. She is a funny eater, doesn't really understand a bowl, and eating from your hand is a foreign concept. Even for treats. She does not associate hands with treats at all. But her tail is always wagging, and she is quite kissy, still. Yesterday when she was coming in from doing her potty duty she was so excited following me down the hallway she was giving me some little playful nips on my hands, and back of my legs. And we have had her for a week tomorrow and no potty accidents in the house, just like...Like Dudster's (Brenda) Murphy...Knock on wood.. |
Sounds like she's a "keeper"!!! |
She sounds so fun!
Are you still calling it FOSTERING? |
Things sound like they are working our wonderfully, and I agree.. she sounds like a keeper.
When Murphy first came to us.. he didn't understand the bowl either. These dogs were feed from a 5-gallon bucket that was just flung on the ground.. it was every dog for themselves. You would think because of this there would be food agression issues.. but there never was with Murphy and there doesn't sound like there is any with LD, and you almost have to stuff the treat into his mouth when you give him one..he is very gentle. Murphy and Deb sound very similar in personality.. the kisses, the nips, the overall affection and sillyness. I am so happy she is finding her place in your family. God Bless you. Brenda |
The update brought smiles to my face. |
