Favorite Shampoo and Conditioner??

I brought Lucy to the groomer last week and I thought she was in pretty good shape but the groomer said she needed to be shaved. I thought I was taking good care of her coat. And frankly, I just went back and saw the pics of willowspirit's grooming and Lucy's legs were not as matted as Skys. The groomer shaved her body down and left her face long. I tried to brush it the next day and could barely get the brush through the hair. Prior to this the last groomer I brought her to was great. Her hair was long and it didn't mat at all, of course with brushing. Do you think it is the products that are used. Unfortuantely, that great place closed. I really wish I knew what they used!! Also, Willowspirit I wish you had shown pics of you doing her legs. Lucy hates the legs and claws done!

So the question is what shampoo and conditioner do you use and where do you get it??

Gosh that's so frustrating, isn't it? I think sometimes the groomers just don't want to take the time to brush them out. :x

Since Lucy isn't being shown, you don't have to worry about using conditioner to soften her coat. I've tried many different things, but right now I'm using Chris Christensen's daily shampoo and conditioner. They're good products. I sometimes use people products, too, and when I do it's usually Infusiam (sp?). I really like the conditioner especially, it smells great and leaves the coat soft and it doesn't matt as easily. :)

P.S. Nice to see you back! It's been awhile! :D
How are you doing Tammy? Did you get snow last night? I know the temp droped 40' here. The warm weather was nice while it lasted!!

Thanks for the tips. I think you are right she just didn't want to spend time brushing her out. It makes me mad that she charged $80.00 dollars and didn't even bother trying to brush her out. Poor Lucy spent several days with her head in the corners out of shame.

Last summer you had suggested Wella and I couldn't find it so thanks for the tip! I will try it.

Hope things are going well with Mr. Muggs. You come up with great names!!

Take care!
Lucy/Thumper,

If you want to "see" a demonstration of how to groom your OES' legs, or any other part, check out our site and click on the line grooming photo essay link. It is a fairly comprehensive review of how to line groom an OES with our Martin Zephram being the ever patient model. The text also includes the link to a prior post which serves as a text accompanyment to the photo essay and its captions.

Shampoo and conditioner choices are almost endless. I simply choose a good quality human shampoo and conditioner and absolutely ensure that the dog is well rinsed out at each phase of the bathing. I have posted on both shampoo/conditoner choice and how to bathe the dog to minimize matting before as well. If you want to find those posts just click on my user name and search through the "Find all Posts" option. I think that they will answer about 99% of most people's questions major questions.

I hope there is something in there that can help. Of course feel free to ask further questions if something is unclear or if I have not already addressed your questions.

Yes the Ear Cleaning photo essay is still lacking text and I'll really try to deal with that in the next little while. Sorry it is taking so long.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
No - we didn't get any snow -in fact, I think it's going to miss us again today. We seem to be in a little "pocket" that misses it every time! Oh well!

Here's a link to that Wella product I mentioned to you. http://www.usahaircare.com/hair-care/we ... d_752.html

You should be able to get it at Trade Secret. I use it for tangles and matts. It's light and not greasy and works out the matts very easily. It's more expensive, I think, than The Stuff or Ice on Ice, but it works really well and you use very little at at time. I'm still on the same bottle I had last summer.

Poor Lucy! :( Luckily their hair grows quickly, so hopefully soon she'll be back to normal! :D

Carl's information on grooming is excellent! I highly recommend reading through it. It's helped me tremendously. :D

As soon as the weather gets better, you'll have to bring Lucy for a playdate! Beau & Gen LOVE company!!
:D I've just found Santa fe Instant detangler. A friend at my barn recommended it for detangling my horse's mane and it worked like magic. I've tried it on Willoughby around his ears and it was just as good. He by the way has just been groomed and bathed within an inch of his little life and came home in beautiful condition: silky coat, no mats, all the right things trimmed and tidy. My only observation is that as the groomers raise schnauzers, he has a "schnauzeresqe"appearance around the eyes and beard!
Yesterday, on our walk by the river, he found burdock that had been piled by the sidewalk and before I could stop him was covered in burrs. We were both shocked 8O 8O and I spent about 10 minutes and more later removing them. Happy to say, no harm done and he has been restored to his pristine state.

Sky doesn't like her legs and feet done either, though she doesn't mind nail clipping.
I just use whatever I have handy, I don't think the products make much of a difference, it's just time and patience and the right brush and comb in my opinion.
The main thing is to break each mat up with your fingers very tiny, and then comb it out, I find my Resco combination comb is best. I get my grooming tools at dog shows, the vendors have the best selection plus I like to see what I'm buying rather than order online.
