I've done my best to lower Puppy's chances of getting dyplasia from the gene pool: mom and dad are both OFAd good, grandparents and G.G.s are goods and 1 fair. I know that signs point to the fact that some Hip Dysplasia is linked to, or can be heightended by environment also. What can I do to help further lower Puppy's chance of developing hip dyplasia? |

Keep the weight down for life. Skinny skinny skinny.
The dog, too. I think I've read some things about puppies and stairs (avoid them) but I'm not sure if that's a truism or a myth. Great question! Let's hear (read?) other's opinions and stories! |
Don't over exercise you puppy while it is under 6 months old.
The bones are growing more until the are 6 months old then the muscles start to bulid. I got told a long time ago off a breeder don't let them run up and down stairs alot and don't let them do a lot of jumping up on their back legs (catching balls and toys) until their muscles have developed . Don't know how far this helps but i stick to the advice given . Figure it can't do any harm and it might be helping the dog. |
