What's the best baby gate that can stand two crazy sheepies? Sofa the wonderdog has been seem jumping over bikes and trash cans when they are blocking her way. She just looks at them, sits, and with a spring jump she's on the other side.... Maybe I should buy one of those army surplus hummer barricades Waht's your experience with sheepies and baby gates? Any models or brands you could recommend? |

I saw some really nice ones (that weren't available a few months ago when I was looking ) in the new JB Pet Wholesale catalog. I didn't see them on the website, though. I was gonna link it for you. But, if you go to the website, you can request a catalog. www.jbpet.com
If Sofa's a good jumper, though, you might have a problem with a regular baby gate. Typically, they're not more than 2 1/2 - 3 ft high. I know Genevieve jumps mine like it's nothing. You may have to be more creative...which for you two would not be a problem!!! |
Two gates, one above the other. Make them the swing type (like a yard chainlink fence) that just catch a latch on the other side. You could even leave a 12 inch gap or so if it needs to be even higher.
No experience in this, just thinking.... |
hmmm... Interesting idea. I was already thinking about a swing gate, one that's easy to open and close, but it did not ocur to me using TWO baby gates.
Maybe a dutch door is my future? |
Future? Install them now, so the dogs get used to them and what they mean. |
I was thinking dutch door, too, Saul but wasn't sure it if was an option. The area where I use the baby gate is my kitchen which just has an arched entry way with no door. So, I don't have the option. But, I've always thought it was a great idea! |

We know. We want to make the transition for our furry children as smooth as possible. The sooner they understand the area is off limits, the better. Sofa has proven to be quite a challenge when it comes to containment, she's fearless and with a goal determination so strong I wish I had half her persistance. I remember seeing a few pics of sheepies and gates on the forum, but can't remember who posted. The gate was tall and looked sturdy, hopefully they'll read and comment on that gate. |
I know Stacey (Willowsprite) has a jail, I mean, gates at her doorway that are really tall...
We have perfect for us baby gates that were built by the last owner of our house and left in the garage. They are made from thick wood and are really sturdy, but they are just regular baby gate height, so that wouldn't help you... |

Here we go... |
Great shot!
I found her post about how she made that gate here: http://forum.oes.org/viewtopic.php?p=52840#52840 |
That is SUCH a cool idea! No prob with sheepies jumping over that bad boy! I'm think I'm stealing that idea for my butler's pantry... |
