He absolutely ADORES both rawhides and a Kong stuffed with peanut butter, but I can't give him these things round the clock. I think he prefer to chew on things he can actually ingest, rather than chew toys. Does anyone have suggestions on the best chew toys or chewable household items for sheepies? What have people's puppies enjoyed? Thanks! |

Try a chew hoof . Both of my dogs love them and I have found that it takes a long time for them to chew one (a week if they are diligent). You don't have to worry about it breaking into pieces and getting caught in their throat. The only drawback is that they don't smell the greatest. I make my dogs stay on the rug when they chew them. They don't cost a lot either. I can buy them for .65 cents each and pick through them to get the thickest ones. |
ewww, I make panda chew those outside...they stink but she loves them....peeee--eeewww |
I give Daisy dog bones. I mean the ones I get at the grocery store, soup bones, marrow bones. She loves them and while this doesn't stop her from occasionally chewing on my sneaker shoestrings. it helps curb this only destructive behavior she has. She also has "cured" bones that I get at the pet store, but she prefers the marrow bones which I cook before I give them to her. |
Our dogs have several favorite toys. Petsmart used to carry the Pedigree Pull & Tug toy. I now have to find them over the internet. All three of the dogs love to hold the end intended for people. Sigh. They often play tug of war with each other.
Regular tennis balls don't last too long at our house - they are quickly pulled to pieces. I have a couple of larger ones that the dogs love to carry around and chew on. We also have a couple of regular soccer balls, partially deflated, for them. We also have a very small, soft rubber squeaky soccer ball that we have had for 8 years. For whatever reason, the kids have not torn it apart. They do take it away from each other, but they are very careful it. We also have Kongs and the lightup balls. The fabric toys last less than 10 minutes in our house. |
As a puppy, one of Sasha's favorite 'toys' was an empty pop bottle. She would chase it all over the place, it would amuse her for quite awhile. That's about the time we discovered she could 'pounce'. The other good ol faithfull is the hoof bones as well. But like everyone has mentioned they are stinkey!!!! |
My girls love empty pop bottles too...lol... Dancer loves coffee and coke though, so I think for her just the challenge of getting a few drops out of the bottle is the most fun. |
Bully sticks are a favorite here...similar to the hooves, but 'another' area of the bull
Holey treat balls from Petsmart...fill it with treats, hotdgos whatever and keeps them occupied for awhile. Mine LOVE raw marrow bones to chew on, it makes a huge mess to the fur, I get them at the grocery store. As well as the cooked kind from the pet store. I avoid rawhide and greenies....just to be safer. The Kong...soften some dog food in chicken/beef stock, stuff and freeze...takes them longer to work it out. |
Mine always liked the cow hooves (yes they stink) but make sure you don't step on them without shoes! That's worse than the smell.
My little ones liked the pop bottles and empty gallon milk jugs (without the cap). Have to throw away after they chew on for awhile, but just head to the trash, wash and a brand new toy - FREE. Liked the marrow bones and peanut butter milk bones. The rawhide is not digestable. Years ago mine would vomit pieces of it up. I stopped giving it to them and later found out why that happened. They're not safe. |
